Snow removal continues as more
winter weather moves in
Snow removal operations have been under way since a
powerful nor'easter arrived early Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the winter
storm named Juno dropped 30 inches of snow on Dover,
mostly on Tuesday.
With more winter weather in store for the City, including
additional snowfall today, motorists are asked to adhere to
the overnight, onstreet winter parking ban, which will help
facilitate ongoing snow removal operations. As a reminder, curbside trash and recycling pickup is
delayed by one day this week. Property owners are asked
to place trash bags and recycling bins at driveway
openings, back from the edge of the street, and not on top
of snow banks or in paths where sidewalk snow removal
tractors are operating.

M U N I C I P A L M A T T E R S Mayors receive assurance TriCity
is not on refugee resettlement list
During a conference call with representatives of U.S. Sens.
Kelly Ayotte and Jeanne Shaheen, the mayors of Dover,
Rochester and Somersworth were assured there are no
plans by the U.S. Department of State to relocate
international refugees to the communities of the TriCity.
Dover Mayor Karen Weston, Rochester Mayor T.J. Jean
and Somersworth Mayor Dana Hilliard first expressed
concern last year after the Organization for Refugee and
Immigrant Success (ORIS), an agency that assists the U.S.
Department of State in identifying suitable communities for
refugee relocation, indicated the TriCity was being
evaluated as a possible destination for refugees. After the
three mayors conveyed their concerns about the fiscal
impact of the program on local taxpayers, ORIS stated it
was premature to discuss resettlement in the TriCity
region, and there were no plans to proceed without TriCity
support.
Dover Mayor Karen Weston repeated those concerns to
representatives from the offices of U.S. Sens. Ayotte and
Shaheen during a Dover City Council workshop in
December.
The conference call this week was in response to a pledge
by the three TriCity mayors to follow up on the matter with
the New Hampshire Congressional delegation.
Representatives of Sens. Ayotte and Shaheen reiterated to
the three mayors this week there are no plans by the U.S.
Department of State to relocate refugees to the TriCity as
part of the Reception and Placement Program. The
representatives said the process of selecting a community
or region is long and involved, and does not proceed
without extensive feedback from potentially affected
communities.
