There were two additional laboratory-confirmed nosocomial outbreaks reported outside the CDC-defined influenza reporting
period of October 8, 2005 to May 20, 2006. Both outbreaks occurred in early June 2006.

3. SENTINEL PROVIDER SURVEILLANCE:
Thirty-seven (29%) of 129 New York State and New York City sentinel providers for influenza surveillance submitted 102
respiratory specimens to the NYSDOH Wadsworth Center for testing. Four specimens were positive for respiratory viruses
other than influenza, as noted in the table below. Forty-eight specimens (47%) tested positive for influenza. Of the positive
influenza specimens, 42 (88%) were influenza A [39 of these were subtyped as A(H3N2)], and 6 (12%) were influenza B.
Forty-eight specimens were negative. Two specimens were not able to be tested.
