MPS Weekly Update
9 April 2015
The most recent MPS cake event was used to
highlight the annual National Student Survey
(NSS) www.thestudentsurvey.com and as a
way of encouraging final year students to
complete the survey, whilst ensuring that academic, and other,
staff, would also be aware of the benefits of a high completion
response.
The cake was created by our accomplished catering
department and, as Senior Tutor in Mathematics, Prof
James Hirschfeld, esteemed oenophile, bon viveur
and Australian – those three qualities would appear
mutually inclusive! – rose to the cake-cutting task with
mathematical precision (one would have expected nothing less, Ed)
The NSS runs until 30 April and if we receive a
75% response rate from our MPS students, that
will guarantee £1000 for the School to spend on
student-related matters. Should we reach an 80%
response rate, then we would receive £2000 to
spend on our students.

Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s violin
concertos in A and E and
Schubert’s Mass in G
respectively, is currently in the foyer and is adjusted on a weekly
basis when the latest figures are known. (NB As I type, both
departments are just bubbling under the 75% mark, Ed)
