MPS Weekly Update 12 March 2015 NEW MPS APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME Please welcome two new additions to the MPS family next week. Daniel Bartlett (starting 16 March) will be an apprentice working with the mechanical workshop staff and James Warner (starting 17 March) will be working with Richard White and Stephen Major in the electronics workshop. Both young men will be taking day-release courses at Central Sussex College in Crawley and expect to obtain an HNC, or even an HND, by the end of their four-year apprenticeship. The idea of apprenticeships in the technical services was floated about a year and a half ago. We have long felt that apprenticeships were an obvious way to pass on some of the existing workshop skills and to do what the University does best: train people for future careers - although we hope that Daniel and James will stay on after their apprenticeships and become permanent staff. Sussex Universe Series Thursday 19 March 7pm-8pm Chichester I lecture theatre Prof Mark Hindmarsh How long is a piece of cosmic string? This intriguingly-titled talk is the final one of the series for this academic session. ALL WELCOME – NO NEED TO BOOK The talk will be followed by wine and nibbles.
