Course Description:
This repertory ensemble will perform varied literature from the modern and Big Band
genres. The MEJE will perform traditional as well as contemporary works and will seek
to be active in commissioning new works for the genre. Membership is open to any
student at NYU by audition.
The band will rehearse on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm in room 303 of the
Education Building. There will be scheduled concerts each semester in Loewe Theater
that will be open to the public. The MEJE may be taken for 1 credit, or for those over the
full-time limit, registering for 0 credit is possible. This ensemble is open to the university
community by audition. An access code must be obtained from the teacher of record to
register for this course.
Course Attendance:
You are permitted to miss one rehearsal for illness as long as you notify the music
director via email in advance and have a doctor’s note. Individual preparation of parts is
a requirement for the success of this ensemble. To that end, you will be responsible for
all assigned repertoire: to be adequately prepared for all full rehearsals and sectional
rehearsals as assigned. The music director will provide a schedule of rehearsal
repertoire so that you may effectively prepare your music for each rehearsal.
Responsibility for Issued Property:
At the beginning of each semester, you will be issued music and a music folder that will
be your responsibility for the time you are enrolled in this ensemble. At the end of that
time, you will be asked to return the folder with all music in the condition in which it was
issued. If you lose your folder or your music, you will be financially responsible for the
cost of replacement.
