Course description:
Kaleidoscope Dancers is a professional and community
service based dance company within the Dance
Education Program that provides interactive dance
experiences to children from a variety of schools from
the NYC Department of Education.
Course Goals:
Students in Kaleidoscope Dancers Company will take
weekly company class, learn repertory and prepare lesson
plans for children in K-12 settings in the fall semester.
In the spring semester, students will collaboratively teach
lesson plans each Friday to a group of children from a NYC
DOE school. Company members each week will perform,
analyze, and discuss the repertory, will co-teach and
participate in a creative dance making class, will
collaborate with children on a dance making activity, will
facilitate describing the dance to the company music
director who will create an original score, and will perform
the original choreography with the original score for the
other participants. Company members will provide written
lesson plans to the group, will analyze and critique the
lessons, and will deconstruct the pedagogic process of
collaborative teaching and learning.
Kaleidoscope also contributes to 2 fully produced free
concerts for children each year in the Frederick Loewe
theatre, connected with the Masters Concert in November
and the Faculty Concert in April.
