Description
Communication done effectively often contributes to success of the individual, the project and the outcomes. In
this course participants will learn how to understand different communication styles, effectively communicate,
and handle communication through conflict. In addition, material will cover how to impart professionalism in
presentations, demonstrate expertise in written or oral communication and use of persuasion for project's
mission. Attendees will engage in equal parts lecture and practice.
Who Should Attend
• Front-line staff responsible for reports and conveying critical information through the chain of
command
• Anyone responsible for persuading others or challenged by communication obstacles
• Experts required to give presentations or demonstrate expertise to varied audiences
In this practical, content-packed course learn how to:
• Understand communication: how written and oral communication are interpreted in the workplace
• Demonstrate professionalism in communicating critical information in reports and presentations
• Know when and how to effectively persuade individuals and groups buy-in or conflict resolution
• How to effectively identify and communicate to different individuals and different reporting levels
• Learn communication channels
Effective Communication is an elective course of the Road Scholar Program
Instructor
Instructor Alison Gaulden, APR, is a consummate public relations and communications
lecturer at the University of Nevada Reynolds School of Journalism. In addition, she has
owned two consulting businesses and teaches public relations to businesses at Truckee
Meadows Community College and the University of Nevada Extended Studies Program.
