City Adult Literacy Initiative. Also in this capacity, developed and coordinated the educational
activities with the Mayor for his own “adopted class” of the citywide Adopt-A-Class Program, a
mayoral initiative with the public schools.

Theme: The Journey to Brown v. the Board of Education: Before and After the Desegregation of
Schools in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Designed and led a study experience to give
undergraduate students an opportunity to visit with and learn from people whose lives were
personally affected by the desegregation of schools, before and after the 1954 Supreme Court case.
The 13 participating students traveled during the January 2002 intersession.

Foundations (OSF)/Open Society Initiatives in South Africa (OSIWA) and the Liberian
Ministry of Education – an early childhood initiative to prompt community-based preschool and
lead a course in Early Childhood Development for beginning preschool teachers at the
university level in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. Assisted in the development of materials
to be used in the professional development sessions. June – July 2014.
