Miriam Davenport & Mary Jayne Gold, 1940 About Fred Marcus (5/16/24-6/25/02) Fred Marcus, for whom this annual Holocaust lecture series is named, was born in Berlin and spent the war years in Shanghai, China as a refugee from Nazi Germany. A nationally known Jewish educator, he was a member of the Speakers Bureau of the Holocaust Awareness Institute and gave frequent talks about the Holocaust to school classes, organizations, as well as church and synagogue groups. For more information about Fred and Jews in Shanghai, visit www.survivalinshanghai.com. Bring Your Gently Worn Shoes to the Lecture We are again collecting gently worn shoes at the lecture as a reminder of the shoes left behind in concentration camps by victims of the Holocaust. This year, shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls, a national organization that provides shoes to needy individuals and supports micro-business efforts to relieve poverty in the U.S. and around the world. Please help with this worthwhile effort.
