What's New in Microsoft Office 2013

Backstage View
When you first open Word 2013 you will see this
screen. The screens for the other Office products are very
similar. Either select a Recent document or choose a
blank document or other template.

When you Open existing files using the File tab you are
taken to the Backstage View which shows the file
information.
Either choose Recent Documents if appropriate
or click on Computer to see the most recently used
folders, then double click on Computer to see the
Windows Explorer file list screen.

the new features and functional
changes in Word, Outlook, Excel
and PowerPoint
Word
PowerPoint
Outlook
Many of you won’t notice much
difference in Word 2013 however the following are
noteworthy
PowerPoint
Outlook enhancements
 When running a presentation you can now
 When replying to an email the reply is composed
in the view email pane (in-line) rather than a
separate window. Click on Pop-out to edit the
reply in a full email window.
 Word can now open and convert a PDF ready
for editing in Word.
 Word Read View is used as default to show any
documents which have been sent via email.
 Commenting and Simple Markup have been
improved to allow conversation type comments.
 Zoom in on part of a slide
 See all slides
 Enlarge the slide content using + (plus sign)
and reduce by using − (minus sign).
When running the slide show
 If using Heading styles, you can now collapse
and expand text in Print Layout view.
 Online videos are added with a new menu option.
Excel
Excel has many useful updates, notably
 Quick Analysis which is activated when data is
selected. The icon appears providing
easy access and previews to features
such as charting, conditional formatting,
totals and more.
 Recommended charts has been added so that
Excel analyses the selected data and presents the
most appropriate chart types.
 Flash fill is useful when tidying up data. It can
interpret changes/updates and apply them to other
relevant data, eg formatting dates, combining text
 Weather information can be shown at the top of
your calendar
 Presenter view is turned on as standard and gives
access to slide notes, running time and slide
preview although this remains hardware
dependent.
 Custom shapes allows you to combine multiple
shapes into one.
 More slide transitions added.
 A new Sneak Peek
feature gives a
preview/summary of
your Calendar or
Contacts. You can
scroll through or
search in the Sneak
Peak window.
 If you use the word
“attach” or
“attachment” but then
don’t attach anything
you are given a
reminder warning when the email is sent.
 New option to save as a video file.
All Modules
 For What’s New, click on the ? (Help button top
right of window).
 File, Open/Save has additional steps.
 Create PDF moved to File, Export.
 Send as Email Attachment moved to File, Share,
Email.
