Occupational Safety and Health Data Users’
Workshop, 2013
Special series: articles from the 2013 Occupational Safety
and Health Statistics Data Users’ Workshop
On May 15–16, 2013, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
Occupational Safety and Health Statistics (OSHS)
program held a special data users’ workshop in
Washington D.C. The gathering, which coincided with the
40-year anniversary of the OSHS program, was attended
by many data users and researchers in the health and
safety community within government, private industry,
labor, and academia. The workshop included keynote
speeches from data users, researchers, and stakeholders.
There also were presentations of papers by safety and
health professionals.
During the next few weeks, the Monthly Labor Review will

publish a series of papers from the OSHS workshop on a
variety of topics regarding work-related injuries, illnesses,
and fatalities from the Survey of Occupational Injuries and
Illnesses (SOII) and Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI). This series of articles consists of
