Program Objectives
Enhance the communication skills
of rising scientists.
Support high-level research of
our local estuarine waterways.
Enrich science instruction
at SCCPSS schools.
Enhance awareness of coastal
and estuarine issues.
GK-12 Graduate Fellows from the SSU Marine
Sciences M.S. degree program serve 10hr/wk in SCCPSS
classrooms under the guidance of a teacher mentor. Their
goal is to improve their communication skills while infusing
research, hands-on learning, and interdisciplinary ocean
science topics into the classroom. Seven graduate fellows
are currently based at Beach High School, Johnson High
School, Islands High School, Charles Ellis Montessori Academy, and Thunderbolt Elementary.
