R.E: Letter of Support For Cost of Living Raises for Savannah State
University Faculty
Dear Georgia Assembly Appropriations Committee:
As you develop FY 2014 appropriations legislation for the State of Georgia, please know
that the Faculty Senate of Savannah State University urges you to support a balanced
approach to the sequestration and the state’s deficit reduction that does not include the
continuation of the current salary freeze on USG faculty. A continued salary freeze on USG
faculty, especially the outstanding faculty at Savannah State University, will have two-fold
consequences beloved state. First, a continued salary freeze will make our state a recruiting
ground for competing states. Some of the brightest minds in Georgia work at Savannah
State University, and we are fearful that competing states are currently targeting them.
Second, a continued salary freeze affects morale
We recognize the challenge that our state faces in addressing the deficit and revitalizing our
state economy. However, only a balanced approach to the current state of our state
economy can restore fiscal stability. We kindly urge you to respectfully work together
with the house appropriations committee, and the governor to find a balanced approach
to our state financial crisis that does not include a continued salary freeze on USG
faculty, especially the outstanding faculty at Savannah State University. The Faculty
Senate at Savannah State University commends the leadership of the Georgia State Senate
Appropriations Committee for always striving to resolve the difficulty deficit problem for
our beloved state through a balanced approach. If you have any questions, please contact
me (Samuel Dolo) at 912-358-3292 or [email protected].
Sincerely,
The Executive Committee of SSU Faculty Senate
