Graduates will critically analyze assumptions of their own world view and
manage their own values such that it will permit practice of professional values
Graduates will collaborate with clients, families, communities, organizations
and legislators to combine resources to impact client outcomes.
Graduates will affirm the African American legacy and acknowledge diversity
by utilizing differential assessments, interventions and evaluations among
individuals, groups, families and communities within the context of cultural
and ethnic backgrounds and environments.
Graduates will practice discriminately with at-risk populations within
various groups.
Graduates will be able to acknowledge client’s life experiences that include
intersectionality, political ideology, and immigration status, variance in ability,
religion, power, privilege and acclaim.
Graduates will be able to assume responsibility for monitoring the impact of
human service organizations upon the oppressed and disenfranchised
populations within our society with emphasis upon the dynamics of sex and
gender/social orientation, race, social and economic justice, age and disability
as these impact organizations and service delivery.
Graduates will incorporate the value base of the profession and arrive at their
own personal philosophy and conceptual framework of social work practice
and accept responsibility for ongoing reflective practice, engage in
professional development and attain sophistication as a life-long learning.
Graduates will judiciously use leadership skills and manage their professional
demeanor and will independently evaluate their own practice, programs and
policies, organizations and service systems that impact the grass roots social
service environment
Graduates will autonomously and discriminately apply multiple theoretical
perspectives (clinical and administrative) and apply multi-level interventions
that respond to clients’ and systems’ strengths and challenges using ecological,
systems and life course perspectives.
Graduates will understand the historical development of the U.S. social welfare
system contextualized in U.S. democratic and political ideology, and its
linkages to the global dynamics of Social/ Economic Justice
Using evidence-based practice and the strengths and empowerment
perspectives, graduates will understand, analyze and identify gaps in policy
that result in practice issues.
Graduates will understand how the client’s life experiences and the larger
environment that may include bio, psycho, social, cultural, racial, resource
distribution, and spiritual factors, collectively and systemically create a pattern
of oppression that result in violation of human rights and threatens the
existence .64of a peaceful society.
