Who is eligible for the University’s Amex Corporate Card (“the Amex Card”)?
All full-time appointed Academic, Professional and Managerial Staff. Other full-time employees will require
an approval of the responsible VP.
How do I apply for the Amex Card?
Please complete the American Express application form online and print. The original application is to be
signed by the applicant and approved by the applicant’s supervisor, then forwarded to Business &
Financial Affairs. Allow 10 business days for processing.
Is there an annual/monthly fee for the Amex Card?
No, there are no fees for the employee.
What are the benefits of the Amex Card?
The card offers significant savings to employees traveling on University business by providing:
 Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance*
 $500,000 Travel Accident Insurance
 Flight and Baggage Delay and
 Hotel/Motel Burglary Insurance
Is the issuance of the American Express Card based on my credit score? The AMEX card is not based on
your credit, but will report to your credit.
Will there cash advances still be issued now that travel cards are available?
Employee who have receive the University Travel card should no longer request cash advances except where
AMEX is not accepted for anticipated expenditures.
Can I sign up for American Express' Membership Rewards program?
No, Savannah State University does not subscribe to the American Express' Points program.
Can I use the Amex Card to withdraw cash from ATMs?
No, Savannah State University does not subscribe the American Express' Express Cash program. However,
SSU travel policy does permit employees to arrange for cash advances.
Does the Amex Card assist with personal cheque cashing?
Yes, subject to cash availability and local currency restrictions and upon presentation of the Amex Card, you
may cash a personal cheque:
 Outside Canada and USA, up to $1,000 at any American Express Travel Service Office.
 In Canada and USA, up to $250 at participating hotels and motels, where you are a registered
guest and the bill is charged to the Amex Card.
May I charge personal expenses on the Amex Card?
No, the Amex Card is provided to cover University business expenses only.
What do I do if my Amex Card is lost or stolen?
You must immediately report your card lost or stolen by calling 24-Hour Emergency Services

Do I need to retain Amex Card receipts and statements?
Yes, all receipts for University business charged to the Amex Card are to be collected, verified to monthly
statements, and submitted in accordance with the University’s Reimbursement of Expenses Policy.
When will I receive my Amex statement?
At the beginning of each month account statements are available electronically from your Amex My Account
webpage and will reflect charges up to the 25th of the previous month.
When is my payment due to American Express?
The full balance is due immediately at the beginning of the month as soon as the monthly on-line statement
becomes available. The cardholder is responsible for submitting payment directly to American Express.
What happens if my Amex account is past due?
You may encounter difficulties using the Amex Card as the Card and/or the account can be suspended or
cancelled. Contact American Express directly if there are any unpaid balance problems with your account,
or notify them if your payment will be late for any reason. Balances over 90 days past due may be payroll
deducted.
Is there a penalty for overdue amounts?
Yes, a delinquency assessment of 0.0822% per day (equivalent to 30% annual rate) will be charged on all 45day past due accounts. Delinquency fees will not be reimbursed to employees.
As an Amex Card member, what obligations do I have to American Express?
You are responsible for reading the provisions of the Corporate Card member Agreement prior to using the
Amex Card and for adhering to the Card member conditions and all University policy when using the Card.
As an Amex Cardmember, what obligations do I have to Savannah State University?
• The Card is to be used for University business only.
• The account is to be paid off on time; the cardholder is responsible for any delinquency fees.
• A lost or stolen Card must be immediately reported to Amex.
• If your position no longer requires that you need the Card, contact Savannah State University
Business & Financial Affairs Department to arrange for cancellation.
Can I continue to use my Amex Card if I leave or retire from Savannah State University?
No, the Card member account must be cancelled by contacting American Express and the Amex Card
returned to the Business & Financial Affairs.
