SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY APPLICATION FOR BORDER COUNTY WAIVER NONRESIDENT STUDENTS This waiver is applicable to students residing in Beaufort and Jasper counties of South Carolina only. No other counties within South Carolina will be considered. As of the first day of classes for the term, a nonresident student can be considered for this waiver if he/she has been accepted at Savannah State University and meets the following conditions: Students Under 24 Their parent or United States court-appointed legal guardian has maintained domicile in South Carolina in either Beaufort or Jasper counties for at least twelve (12) consecutive months and the student can provide clear and legal evidence showing the relationship to the parent or United States court-appointed legal guardian has existed for at least twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the first day of classes for the term. Under South Carolina regulations, legal guardianship must be established prior to the student’s 18th birthday; or The student can provide clear and legal evidence showing a familial relationship to their spouse and the spouse has maintained domicile in South Carolina for at least twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the first day of classes for the term. Married Students 24 and Older The student can provide clear and legal evidence showing a familial relationship to the spouse and the spouse has maintained domicile in South Carolina for at least twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the first day of classes for the term. NOTE: This waiver will be valid for one year only. You will need to provide verification of your South Carolina residency on an annual basis.
