Jim Toman
Jim Toman is in his sixth year at Liberty
after posting the highest NCAA Division
I winning percentage (.633) during his
first five years in Lynchburg of any head
baseball coach in program history.
With a 41-19 record last season, Toman’s Flames have now posted the
school’s top two single-season win totals
in program history. The 2010 Flames set
the school record for wins with a 43-18
campaign.
The Flames have notched a 187-108-1
overall record during his five seasons on
Liberty Mountain and have also posted
an 82-43 Big South mark over the span.
Along with their second 40-plus win
season in 2012, the Flames set school
records for team ERA (3.04) and
shutouts (11).
Toman saw seven players from his
Flames squad selected during the 2011
Major League Baseball Draft, the most
players chosen in a single draft in the
39-year history of the program. The
number ties the 2007 and 2010 Coastal
Carolina squads for the Big South Conference record for players picked in a
single draft.
The impressive strides made by the
program have not gone unnoticed. In
December, Rivals.com selected Toman
as one of 10 Collegiate Head Coaches
on the Rise, while in November of 2010,
Rivals cited Liberty as one of college
baseball’s top 10 rising programs.
Toman was named the sixth head
coach in the history of the Liberty
Baseball program in June 2007, after
11 seasons as the senior member of
Ray Tanner’s coaching staff at South
Carolina. Toman worked a total of 18
years alongside Tanner, dating back to
the 1990 season at N.C. State.
During his time at South Carolina, Toman served as recruiting coordinator and
coached the catchers. Known as one
of the top recruiters in college baseball,
the 22-year college coaching veteran
was named the 2002 Baseball America/
American Baseball Coaches Association
Assistant Coach of the Year. Before joining the Gamecock staff in 1996, Toman
served under Tanner for seven years at
N.C. State.
A native of Monroeville, Pa., Toman
and his wife Ashley live in Forest, Va.
They have three children - Caroline (15),
Charlie Mac (12), and Tucker (9).

• The Flames posted a 3-1 record at home this past week. Liberty is now 17-6 at Liberty
Baseball Stadium this season.
• Yesterday, RHP Trey Lambert was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week for games
played April 15-21.
• This past Sunday, RHP Trey Lambert won his sixth game and pitched his third complete
game of 2013 in a 3-1 victory over Winthrop. Lambert allowed one run on six hits over nine
innings and tied his career-high for strikeouts with nine.
• Saturday, RHP Brooks Roy gave up one run over seven innings to pick up the win in the
second game of a doubleheader with Winthrop
• OF/RHP Ashton Perritt had three hits, drove in two runs, scored a run and pitched two
scoreless innings, earning a save in the contest. The save was Perritt’s fourth on the year.
He also pitched a scoreless ninth in Liberty’s 6-2 win over Old Dominion on Tuesday.
• RHP Josh Richardson pitched seven scoreless innings of relief this past week. Richardson
threw two scoreless innings in Liberty’s win, Tuesday. He also pitched five scoreless frames
against Winthrop in game one of a doubleheader, Saturday.
• With his two appearances during the week, Richardson now leads the Flames in appearances with 16.
• DH Danny Grauer hit his fourth home run of the season, Tuesday. The Liberty designated
hitter had two hits in the game and scored a career-high three runs.
• OF Ryan Cordell belted his team-leading fifth home run of the year with Grauer on board
in the eighth, Tuesday. He also drove in two runs in the first with a double. The center fielder
finished the night with two hits and four RBIs.
• LHP Jared Lyons recorded his first win of the year, Tuesday. Making his first start of 2013,
Lyons allowed two runs on six hits during six innings of work.

South Conference in batting average (9th), hits (6th) and RBIs (6th).
• OF Ryan Cordell belted his team-leading fifth home run of the year in Liberty’s win over Old
Dominion, last Tuesday. The center fielder finished the night with two hits and four RBIs.
• Cordell leads the Big South with 16 two-out RBIs and is eight with 30 RBIs.
• DH Danny Grauer hit his fourth home run of the season with one aboard in the third inning,
last Tuesday. The Liberty DH had two hits in the game and scored a career-high three runs.
• Grauer had four hits, including two home runs and a double, and drove in four runs in Liberty’s victory over James Madison, 4/19.
• It was the second time this season, Grauer has had four hits and four RBIs in a game.
Playing at 1B, Grauer went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in Liberty’s win over Longwood, in game two of a doubleheader, 3/30. It was Grauer’s first four-hit and four-RBI game
as a Flame.
• C Trey Wimmer was added to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, the Greater Wichita
Area Sports Commission announced on 4/9. The award goes to the nation’s top catcher.
• Wimmer is among the Big South leaders in several offensive categories. He ranks fourth in
doubles (13), first in triples (3), and fifth in hitting in RBI opportunities (.425)
• Wimmer had four hits, a RBI and scored twice in Liberty’s 12-11 win over James Madison,
4/19. It is the first time this season, the C had four hits in a game.
• OF/RHP Ashton Perritt had three hits, drove in two runs, scored a run and pitched two
scoreless innings, earning a save in the contest. The save was Perritt’s fourth on the year.
He also pitched a scoreless ninth in Liberty’s 6-2 win over Old Dominion on Tuesday.

• After 34 years of playing at Worthington Stadium, the Flames christened the new facility on
Feb. 23-24.
• Liberty opened the stadium with a three-game sweep of Penn State, Feb. 2/23-24 and went on
to win their first seven games at the facility.
• When completed in June, the stadium will have 2,500 chairback seats, a turf playing field, a
operations center for the baseball program and a fully functional press area.
• The stadium will play host the 2013 Big South Baseball Championship, May 21-25
• Over the years, the Flames were rather successful on their home field at Worthington
Stadium.

Lambert Tabbed Big South Pitcher of the Week
• Liberty pitcher Trey Lambert was named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week for
games played April 15-21, Monday. The honor marks his first Pitcher of the Week plaudit of his
career.
• Lambert struck out nine Winthrop hitters, en route to a complete game, 3-1 win over the
Eagles on Sunday.
• After allowing a run in the first inning, Lambert pitched eight scoreless innings.
• The performance was his second consecutive complete game and third of the season for the
right-hander.
• With the win, the right-hander moves to 6-3 on the year. He leads the Flames in both wins and
innings pitched (61.2).
A Look Back at Winthrop Series
• Liberty won two out of three games against Winthrop in a Big South series at the Liberty Baseball Stadium, this past weekend.
• This past Sunday, RHP Trey Lambert won his sixth game and pitched his third complete game
of 2013 in a 3-1 victory. Lambert allowed one run on six hits over nine innings and tied his
career-high for strikeouts with nine.
• Saturday, RHP Brooks Roy gave up one run over seven innings in the Flames’ 4-1 win over
the second game of a doubleheader with Winthrop.
• OF/RHP Ashton Perritt had three hits, drove in two runs, scored a run and pitched two scoreless innings, earning a save in the contest. The save was Perritt’s fourth on the year.
• RHP Josh Richardson pitched five scoreless frames against Winthrop in game one of a
doubleheader, Saturday.

• 2B Bryan Aanderud had a hit in each game of Liberty’s three-game series with Winthrop this past weekend, extending his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games. The
streak ties the longest such streak of his career.
• Aanderud enters the week, leading the Flames in both batting average and RBIs.
• Two weekends ago, the senior posted back-to-back three-hit games on Saturday
(4/13) and Sunday (4/14). The 2B has posted five three-hit games this season.

A Look Back at Old Dominion
• Liberty defeated Old Dominion at Liberty Baseball Stadium, 6-2, last Tuesday.
• DH Danny Grauer hit his fourth home run of the season with one aboard in the third
inning. The Liberty designated hitter had two hits in the game and scored a career-high
three runs.
• CF Ryan Cordell belted his team-leading fifth home run of the year with Grauer on
base in the eighth. He also drove in two runs in the first with a double. The center fielder
finished the night with two hits and four RBIs.
• It is the second time this season that Cordell and Grauer have both hit home runs in
the same game. A week earlier, both Flames connected for round trippers in a 12-11,
10-inning win over James Madison (4/9).
• LHP Jared Lyons moves to 1-0 on the year. Making his first start of 2013, Lyons allowed two runs on six hits during six innings of work. He struck out two batters and
walked one.
• RHP Josh Richardson pitched two scoreless innings of relief and RHP Ashton Perritt
threw a scoreless ninth in the victory.
• 2B Bryan Aanderud and 1B Alex Close each had two hits for the Flames. With his two
hits, Aanderud extended his consecutive game hitting streak to eight games.
