• SERIES WITH OLD DOMINION: Tuesday will be the 55th meeting between the two schools
on the baseball diamond. Old Dominion leads the all-time series, 34-20.
• First of two meeting between the Flames and the Monarchs this season. The two teams will
met again next Tuesday in Norfolk, Va.
• Liberty and Old Dominion have met on the baseball diamond in 16 out of the past 18 years.

Jim Toman
Jim Toman is in his sixth year at Liberty
after posting the highest NCAA Division
I winning percentage (.633) during his
first five years in Lynchburg of any head
baseball coach in program history.
With a 41-19 record last season, Toman’s Flames have now posted the
school’s top two single-season win totals
in program history. The 2010 Flames set
the school record for wins with a 43-18
campaign.
The Flames have notched a 187-108-1
overall record during his five seasons on
Liberty Mountain and have also posted
an 82-43 Big South mark over the span.
Along with their second 40-plus win
season in 2012, the Flames set school
records for team ERA (3.04) and
shutouts (11).
Toman saw seven players from his
Flames squad selected during the 2011
Major League Baseball Draft, the most
players chosen in a single draft in the
39-year history of the program. The
number ties the 2007 and 2010 Coastal
Carolina squads for the Big South Conference record for players picked in a
single draft.
The impressive strides made by the
program have not gone unnoticed. In
December, Rivals.com selected Toman
as one of 10 Collegiate Head Coaches
on the Rise, while in November of 2010,
Rivals cited Liberty as one of college
baseball’s top 10 rising programs.
Toman was named the sixth head
coach in the history of the Liberty
Baseball program in June 2007, after
11 seasons as the senior member of
Ray Tanner’s coaching staff at South
Carolina. Toman worked a total of 18
years alongside Tanner, dating back to
the 1990 season at N.C. State.
During his time at South Carolina, Toman served as recruiting coordinator and
coached the catchers. Known as one
of the top recruiters in college baseball,
the 22-year college coaching veteran
was named the 2002 Baseball America/
American Baseball Coaches Association
Assistant Coach of the Year. Before joining the Gamecock staff in 1996, Toman
served under Tanner for seven years at
N.C. State.
A native of Monroeville, Pa., Toman
and his wife Ashley live in Forest, Va.
They have three children - Caroline (15),
Charlie Mac (12), and Tucker (9).

• With his weekend at the plate, the senior takes over the team batting average (.340) and
RBIs (29) lead. He led the Flames in both categories in 2012.
• On Saturday, Aanderud had a career-high six RBIs in Liberty’s 9-2 win.
• OF Ashton Perritt also had three hits and scored a career-high four runs in the Flames’
victory, Saturday. The outfielder also stole two bases.
• Sunday, RHP Trey Lambert pitched his second complete game of the season.
However, the junior was on the short-end of a 2-1 score against West Virginia, 4/14.
• On Wednesday night at No. 1-ranked North Carolina, Liberty rallied for four runs in the ninth,
but fell to the Tar Heels, 7-5.
• Perritt hit his second home run of the season in the third inning. He also walked with the
base loaded to finish the night with two RBIs.
• C Trey Wimmer was added to the 2013 Johnny Bench Award Watch List, Tuesday. The
award goes each year to the college baseball’s top catcher.
• Tuesday night, Liberty came back from a 6-0 deficit after two innings for a 12-11, 10 inning
win over James Madison. The Flames collected a season-high 18 hits in the contest.
• The Flames scored two runs in the 10th inning for the win. OF Nick Paxton was hit by a
pitch with the bases loaded and two outs to force in the winning run.
• DH Danny Grauer had four hits, including two home runs and a double, and drove in four
runs in Liberty’s win. Grauer’s four RBIs tied a career-high for the designated hitter.

last Tuesday. It is the first time this season, the C had four hits in a game.

• Cordell leads the Big South with 14 two-out RBIs.
• DH Danny Grauer had four hits, including two home runs and a double, and drove in four
runs in Liberty’s victory over James Madison, Tuesday.
• It was the second time this season, Grauer has four hits and four RBIs in a game. Playing
at 1B, Grauer went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in Liberty’s win over Longwood,
in game two of a doubleheader, 3/30. It was Grauer’s first four-hit and four-RBI game as a
Flame.
• On Sunday, RHP Trey Lambert pitched his second complete game of the season.
However, the junior was on the short-end of a 2-1 score against West Virginia, 4/14.
• Freshman LHP Robert Gray made his first collegiate start at North Carolina, Wednesday.
His previous 11 appearances had all been in relief.
• LHP Shawn Clowers provided 4 2/3 innings of relief in the Flames’ victory, Tuesday. He
gave up one run on five hits over the span. He struck out three Dukes.

Weekend Series to be Televised
• This weekend’s three-game Big South series with Winthrop at the Liberty Baseball Stadium,
will televised live by the Liberty Channel. The Flames Sports Network (FSN) will broadcast
each game of the series. The games will also air on ESPN 3.
• Nick Pierce and Alan York will handle play-by-play and provide commentary for each of the
Flames Sports Network’s broadcasts.
• Liberty’s midweek contest against Maryland on May 1 will also be broadcast by FSN.
• This past weekend’s Liberty and West Virginia was televised live by FSN. Broadcasts will
also air on ESPN 3.
• The Flames’ contest against Big South opponent Coastal Carolina at TicketReturn.com Field
at Pelicans Ballpark was televised nationally by ESPNU on April 6.
• The game between No. 4 Virginia and Liberty at Liberty Baseball Stadium on April 2 was the
first appearance by the Flames on TV this season. The telecast aired on the locally on the

Liberty Baseball Stadium - the New Home of Flames Baseball
• The Flames have posted a 14-5 mark in their first season at the Liberty Baseball Stadium.
• After 34 years of playing at Worthington Stadium, the Flames christened the new facility on
Feb. 23-24.
• Liberty opened the stadium with a three-game sweep of Penn State, Feb. 2/23-24 and went on
to win their first seven games at the facility.
• When completed in June, the stadium will have 2,500 chairback seats, a turf playing field, a
operations center for the baseball program and a fully functional press area.
• The stadium will play host the 2013 Big South Baseball Championship, May 21-25
• Over the years, the Flames were rather successful on their home field at Worthington
Stadium.

Wimmer Added to Johnny Bench Award Watch List
• Liberty catcher Trey Wimmer has been added to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, the
Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced last Tuesday.
• The award honors annually the nation’s top collegiate catcher based on athletic ability, sportsmanship, team leadership and character.
• Three semifinalists will be determined in May by a selection committee and a vote of all
Division I head coaches, held during the College World Series, will determine the award’s recipient.
• C Trey Wimmer enters the week among the Big South leaders in several offensive
categories:

• RBIs (28) - Tied 8th
• Slugging Percentage (.511) - 8th

• OF Nick Paxton enters the week having been hit by a pitch 14 times.
• The junior OF leads the Big South in the category and ranked 22nd in the country in the latest
NCAA statistical rankings (4/10).
• This past Tuesday, Paxton was hit by a pitch for the 12th time this season with the bases
loaded and two outs to force in the winning run in Liberty’s 12-11, 10 inning win over James

A Look Back at West Virginia Series
• West Virginia took two-out-of-three from the Flames at Liberty Baseball Stadium in the
first meeting between the two schools on the diamond since 1978.
• 2B Bryan Aanderud hit .636 for the three-game series, including back-to-back three-hit
games on Saturday and Sunday. The 2B has posted five three-hit games this season.
• With his weekend at the plate, the senior takes over the team batting average (.340)
and RBIs (29) lead. He led the Flames in both categories in 2012.
• On Saturday, Aanderud had a career-high six RBIs in Liberty’s 9-2 win.
• OF Ashton Perritt also had three hits and scored a career-high four runs in the Flames’
victory, Saturday. The outfielder also stole two bases.
• Sunday, RHP Trey Lambert pitched his second complete game of the season.
However, the junior was on the short-end of a 2-1 score.
A Look Back at North Carolina Contest
• On Wednesday night at No. 1-ranked North Carolina, Liberty rallied for four runs in the
ninth, but fell to the Tar Heels, 7-5.
• OF Ashton Perritt hit his second home run of the season in the third inning. He also
walked with the base loaded to finish the night with two RBIs.
• OF Nick Paxton had two hits to lead the Flames and stole his team-leading 14th base
of the season.
• Freshman LHP Robert Gray made his first collegiate start. The LHP gave up five runs
on five hits over 4 2/3 innings. His previous 11 appearances had all been in relief.

A Look Back at James Madison
• Tuesday night, Liberty came back from a 6-0 deficit after two innings for a 12-11, 10
inning win over James Madison. The Flames collected a season-high 18 hits in the
contest.
• The Flames scored two runs in the 10th inning for the win. OF Nick Paxton was hit by
a pitch for the 12th time this season with the bases loaded and two outs to force in the
winning run.
• DH Danny Grauer had four hits, including two home runs and a double, and drove in
four runs in Liberty’s win. Grauer’s four RBIs tied a career-high for the designated hitter.
• OF Ryan Cordell also belted a home run. He collected two RBIs, scored three runs
and stole a base.
• C Trey Wimmer added four hits, a RBI and scored twice in the contest. It was
Wimmer’s first four-hit game of the season.
• LHP Shawn Clowers provided 4 2/3 innings of relief. He gave up one run on five hits
over the span. He struck out three Dukes.
• RHP Ashton Perritt recorded his second win of the year, pitching the 10th inning.
Perritt also started the game in left field and drove in run.
