Jim Toman enters his sixth year at
Liberty after posting the highest NCAA
Division I winning percentage (.633)
during his first five years in Lynchburg
of any head baseball coach in program
history.
With a 41-19 record last season, Toman’s Flames have now posted the
school’s top two single-season win totals
in program history. The 2010 Flames set
the school record for wins with a 43-18
campaign.
The Flames have notched a 187-108-1
overall record during his five seasons on
Liberty Mountain and have also posted
an 82-43 Big South mark over the span.
Along with their second 40-plus win
season in 2012, the Flames set school
records for team ERA (3.04) and
shutouts (11).
Toman saw seven players from his
Flames squad selected during the 2011
Major League Baseball Draft, the most
players chosen in a single draft in the
39-year history of the program. The
number ties the 2007 and 2010 Coastal
Carolina squads for the Big South Conference record for players picked in a
single draft.
The impressive strides made by the
program have not gone unnoticed. In
December, Rivals.com selected Toman
as one of 10 Collegiate Head Coaches
on the Rise, while in November of 2010,
Rivals cited Liberty as one of college
baseball’s top 10 rising programs.
Toman was named the sixth head
coach in the history of the Liberty
Baseball program in June 2007, after
11 seasons as the senior member of
Ray Tanner’s coaching staff at South
Carolina. Toman worked a total of 18
years alongside Tanner, dating back to
the 1990 season at N.C. State.
During his time at South Carolina, Toman served as recruiting coordinator and
coached the catchers. Known as one
of the top recruiters in college baseball,
the 22-year college coaching veteran
was named the 2002 Baseball America/
American Baseball Coaches Association
Assistant Coach of the Year. Before joining the Gamecock staff in 1996, Toman
served under Tanner for seven years at
N.C. State.
A native of Monroeville, Pa., Toman
and his wife Ashley live in Forest, Va.
They have three children - Caroline (15),
Charlie Mac (12), and Tucker (9).

Tracking Liberty
• Liberty rallied for three runs with two outs in the ninth at High Point in game one of a doubleheader, this past Friday. CF Ryan Cordell’s double scored the go-ahead run in the top of the
ninth, as the Flames went on to a 5-4 victory.
• 2B Bryan Aanderud started the comeback with a single with runners on the corners and two
out.
• C Trey Wimmer collected at least one hit in each of Liberty’s four games last week to extend
his career-high hitting streak to 12 games. He currently leads the Flames with a .386 batting
average and is tied for the team lead with 21 RBIs.
• Wimmer’s 12-game hit streak ties Cordell for the longest such streak this season.
• RHP Josh Richardson evened his record at 1-1 on the year, with 2 2/3 innings of relief in
Liberty’s 5-4 win at High Point, Friday. Richardson has not allowed an earned run in his last
five appearances.
• LHP Roberty Gray made two appearances this past weekend. The freshman has not allowed an earned run in his nine appearances this season.
• Cordell had three hits, including his third home run of the year, at Virginia Tech, 3/19. It was
his first three-hit game of the year.
Player Quick Hits
• C Trey Wimmer is currently on career-high 12 game hitting streak. He currently leads the
Flames with a .386 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 21 RBIs.
• Wimmer is also third in the Big South Conference in batting average (.386) , fourth in hits
(34) and fifth in RBIs (21).
• He also leads the conference in hitting with runners in scoring position (.488).
• The senior has thrown out 53% of baserunners trying to steal this season.
• 2B Bryan Aanderud had his consecutive game hit streak snapped at eight games in game
two of Liberty’s doubleheader at High Point, Friday.
• OF Ryan Cordell’s double with two-out in ninth ining scored the go-ahead run, as the
Flames scored three runs in the inning, en route to a a 5-4 win over High Point, this past
Friday in game one of a doubleheader at High Point.
• The OF had three hits, including his third home run of the year, at Virginia Tech, 3/19.
• Cordell is tied with Wimmer for the Flames lead with 21 RBIs. He is tied for the Big South
lead with 12 two-out RBIs.
• OF Nick Paxton leads the Flames with 18 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.
• The OF has been hit by a pitch 11 times to rank fifth in the nation.
• He became the first Flame to hit for the cycle since 2006 on 3/1. His home run was the first
by any player at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
• SS Dalton Britt has started every game at shortstop this season.
• OF Nick Lacik had his first three-hit game as a Flame at Georgia, 3/10. He also had three
RBIs. It was the first time this season, the OF served, as Liberty’s leadoff hitter.
• RHP Ashton Perritt worked out of a bases loaded jam and recieved help with a diving catch
by LF Lacik, an outstanding defensive play, to seal the win and record his third save of the
year, this past Friday.
• Earlier in the week, Perritt saw his first action in the field at Virginia Tech, 3/19. He had two
hits and scored a run.
• RHP Josh Richardson threw 2 1/2 innings of relief to even his record at 1-1. Richardson
has not allowed an earned run in his last five appearances.
• After two appearances this past weekend at High Point, freshman LHP Robert Gray has not
allowed an earned run in nine appearances this season.
• RHP Patrick Bankemper appearred in one game this weekend and now leads the Flames in
appearances with 11 this season.
• Bankemper recorded his first save of the season, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the
ninth inning against Charleston Southern, 3/16.
• Danny Grauer drove in six runs in Liberty’s three-game series against Charleston Southern,
3/15-17. Grauer had three-run single, Friday, before belting a three-run home run on Sunday.

into two six-team divisions.

South Conference’s North Division standings by the
conference’s head coaches in the league’s annual
preseason poll.

• After 34 years of playing at Worthington Stadium, the Flames christened a new facility on Feb.
23-24, the Liberty Baseball Stadium.
• Liberty opened the stadium with a three-game sweep of Penn State, Feb. 2/23-24 and went on
to win their first seven games at the facility.

Virginia-Liberty to be Televised
• Tuesday’s game between No. 11 Virginia and Liberty at Liberty Baseball Stadium will be
televised on ESPN 3 and the FSN Television/Liberty Channel.
• It will be the first appearance for the Flames on TV this season.
• Liberty’s three-game series with West Virginia (4/12-14) and Winthrop (4/19-21) will also be
televised by the FSN Television/Liberty Channel.
• The Flames will also appear on ESPN 3 on April 6 at Coastal Carolina.
A Look Back at High Point Series
• It was a tough weekend for the Flames, as High Point took two out of the three games.
• Liberty rallied for three runs with two outs in the ninth at High Point in game one of a doubleheader for its lone win of the series, Friday. CF Ryan Cordell’s double scored the go-ahead run
in the top of the ninth, as the Flames went on to a 5-4 victory.
• RHP Ashton Perritt worked out of a bases loaded jam and received help with a diving catch by
left fielder Nick Lacik, an outstanding defensive play, to seal the win and record his third save of
the year.
• RHP Josh Richardson threw 2 1/2 innings of relief to even his record at 1-1. Richardson has
not allowed an earned run in his last five appearances.
• C Trey Wimmer collected at least one hit in each of the three games to extend his career-high
hitting streak to 12 games. He also upped his batting average to a team-leading .386 and tied
for the team lead with 21 RBIs.
• LHP Robert Gray made two appearances this past weekend. The freshman has not allowed
an earned run in his nine appearances this season.
• RHP Trey Lambert lost for the first time this year on Saturday. Lambert falls to 4-1 on the year.
• Liberty gave up a season-high eight runs during the fifth inning, Saturday.

• Liberty has announced the addition of a game to its schedule. The Flames will travel to
Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the North Carolina Tar Heels on April 10 at Boshamer Field.

A Look Back at Virginia Tech
• Liberty fell 16-6 to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., 3/19.
• The Flames gave up the most runs in a contest to any opponent this season in the
contest.
• CF Ryan Cordell collected three hits in the contest, including his third home run of the
year. It was Cordell’s first three-hit game of the year.
• C Trey Wimmer had a hit in the contest to extend his consecutive game hit streak to a
career-high nine games.
• 2B Bryan Aanderud moved his consecutive game hit streak to seven games. Aanderud
raised his batting average to a team-leading .385.
• SS Jake Kimble had two hits and two RBIs after coming in the sixth inning
• OF/RHP Ashton Perritt had two hits in his first action in the field this season. He also
scored a run.
Toman Reaches 200
• Liberty Flames head coach Jim Toman posted his 200th career win with a 8-4 win over
Charleston Southern, March 16.
• Toman is only the second of the six coaches in program history to reach the milestone.
Liberty’s first head coach Al Worthington is the other, having posted 343 wins during 13
seasons.
• Toman has posted the highest NCAA Division I winning percentage (.633) during his
first five years in Lynchburg of any head baseball coach in program history.
• The Flames have posted the top two season win totals in program history during Toman’s tenure, posting a school record with 43 victories in 2010 and 41 victories in 2012
Flames Tie Consecutive Win Mark
• The Flames ran off a nine-game winning streak from Feb. 17 through March 3.
• The streak tied the program record for consecutive wins at the NCAA Division I
level. The mark has been reached in seven different seasons.
• The program’s all-time mark is 15 games, which was set by 1976.
