Jim Toman enters his sixth year at
Liberty after posting the highest NCAA
Division I winning percentage (.633)
during his first five years in Lynchburg
of any head baseball coach in program
history.
With a 41-19 record last season, Toman’s Flames have now posted the
school’s top two single-season win totals
in program history. The 2010 Flames set
the school record for wins with a 43-18
campaign.
The Flames have notched a 187-108-1
overall record during his five seasons on
Liberty Mountain and have also posted
an 82-43 Big South mark over the span.
Along with their second 40-plus win
season in 2012, the Flames set school
records for team ERA (3.04) and
shutouts (11).
Toman saw seven players from his
Flames squad selected during the 2011
Major League Baseball Draft, the most
players chosen in a single draft in the
39-year history of the program. The
number ties the 2007 and 2010 Coastal
Carolina squads for the Big South Conference record for players picked in a
single draft.
The impressive strides made by the
program have not gone unnoticed. In
December, Rivals.com selected Toman
as one of 10 Collegiate Head Coaches
on the Rise, while in November of 2010,
Rivals cited Liberty as one of college
baseball’s top 10 rising programs.
Toman was named the sixth head
coach in the history of the Liberty
Baseball program in June 2007, after
11 seasons as the senior member of
Ray Tanner’s coaching staff at South
Carolina. Toman worked a total of 18
years alongside Tanner, dating back to
the 1990 season at N.C. State.
During his time at South Carolina, Toman served as recruiting coordinator and
coached the catchers. Known as one
of the top recruiters in college baseball,
the 22-year college coaching veteran
was named the 2002 Baseball America/
American Baseball Coaches Association
Assistant Coach of the Year. Before joining the Gamecock staff in 1996, Toman
served under Tanner for seven years at
N.C. State.
A native of Monroeville, Pa., Toman
and his wife Ashley live in Forest, Va.
They have three children - Caroline (15),
Charlie Mac (12), and Tucker (9).

• This past Tuesday, CF Ryan Cordell had three hits, including his third home run of the year,
at Virginia Tech.
• SS Jake Kimble had two hits and two RBIs after coming in the sixth inning, Tuesday.
• Last weekend, Liberty opened Big South play with a three-game sweep of Charleston
Southern
• C Trey Wimmer lead the way for the Flames, hitting .500 , with eight RBIs and four extra
base hits in the three-game series. On Friday, he hit his second home run of the year in
Liberty’s 8-2 win.
• The C is currently on an nine-game hitting streak, fueled by a six-game span in which he
had two hits in each contest.
• Danny Grauer’s first home run came in dramatic fashion, Sunday. With Liberty trailing 1-0
and two outs in the seventh, Grauer ripped the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a
three-run home run in Liberty’s 3-1 win over Charleston Southern. Grauer also had a basesclearing single, Friday.
• RHP Trey Lambert became the first Liberty pitcher to go the full nine innings this season,
running his record to 4-0 on the year on Sunday. The complete game was the first of the
junior’s career. The Flames RHP retired the first 10 Buccaneer batters on the afternoon and
allowed the visitors only one hit through the first six innings. For the game, he allowed one
run on three hits and struck out a career-high six batters.

• C Trey Wimmer is currently on career-high nine game hitting streak, fueled by a six-game

• Wimmer lead the way for the Flames, hitting .500 , with eight RBIs and four extra base hits

• 2B Bryan Aanderud moved his consecutive game hit streak to seven games on Tuesday.
The senior raised his batting average to a team-leading .385.
• OF Ryan Cordell had three hits, including his third home run of the year, at Virginia Tech on
Tuesday.
• Cordell leads the Flames with 20 RBIs. He is also tied for the Big South lead in two-out RBIs
with 10.
• OF Nick Lacik had his first three-hit game as a Flame at Georgia, 3/10. He also had three
RBIs. It was the first time this season, the OF served, as Liberty’s leadoff hitter.
• In seven games as Liberty’s leadoff hitter, Lacik is hitting .375 and has an on base percentage of .433. He also has hit .500 with runners in scoring position.
• Danny Grauer drove in six runs last weekend. Grauer had three-run single, Friday, before
belting a three-run home run on Sunday.
• OF Nick Paxton leads the Flames with 17 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.
• He became the first Flame to hit for the cycle since 2006 on 3/1. His home run was the first
by any player at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
• SS Dalton Britt has started every game at shortstop this season.
• INF Jake Kimble had two hits and two runs after coming in the sixth inning, Tuesday.
• RHP/OF Ashton Perritt had two hits in his first action in the field on Tuesday. Perritt has two
saves on the year as pitcher.
• RHP Trey Lambert became the first Liberty pitcher to go the full nine innings this season,

• Bankemper recorded his first save of the season, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the
ninth inning, Saturday.
• Freshman LHP Robert Gray has not allowed an earned run in seven appearances this
season.
• RHP Carson Herndon evened his record at 2-2 last Friday. The RHP allowed one run on five
hits over a season-high 6 1/3 innings.

conference’s head coaches in the league’s annual
preseason poll.

• After 34 years of playing at Worthington Stadium, the Flames christened a new facility on Feb.
23-24, the Liberty Baseball Stadium.
• Liberty opened the stadium with a three-game sweep of Penn State, Feb. 2/23-24 and went on
to win their first seven games at the facility.
• When completed in June, the stadium will have 2,500 chairback seats, a turf playing field, a
operations center for the baseball program and a fully functional press area.

A Look Back at Virginia Tech
• Liberty fell 16-6 to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., this past Tuesday.
• The Flames gave up the most runs in a contest to any opponent this season in the contest.
• CF Ryan Cordell collected three hits in the contest, including his third home run of the year.
It was Cordell’s first three-hit game of the year.
• C Trey Wimmer had a hit in the contest to extend his consecutive game hit streak to a careerhigh nine games.
• 2B Bryan Aanderud moved his consecutive game hit streak to seven games. Aanderud raised
his batting average to a team-leading .385.
• SS Jake Kimble had two hits and two RBIs after coming in the sixth inning
• OF/RHP Ashton Perritt had two hits in his first action in the field this season. He also scored a
run.
Getting it Done on Sunday
• Liberty enters the weekend with a 6-1 record in games played on Sundays and has outscored
its opponents on the first day of the week, 43 to 23.
• The Flames are also 4-0 in three-game series finales, which have also all been played on
Sunday.

Lacik Thrives in Leadoff Position
• LF Nick Lacik was moved into leadoff spot in the Flames’ batting order in an 11-8 victory over Georgia on March 10.
• Lacik had his first three-hit game of the year in the contest and also had three RBIs.
• In seven games as Liberty’s leadoff hitter, Lacik is hitting .375 and has an on base
percentage of .433.
• He also has hit .500 with runners in scoring position.
Toman Reaches 200
• Liberty Flames head coach Jim Toman posted his 200th career win, last Saturday.
• Toman is only the second of the six coaches in program history to reach the milestone.
Liberty’s first head coach Al Worthington is the other, having posted 343 wins during 13
seasons.
• Toman has posted the highest NCAA Division I winning percentage (.633) during his
first five years in Lynchburg of any head baseball coach in program history.
• The Flames have posted the top two season win totals in program history during Toman’s tenure, posting a school record with 43 victories in 2010 and 41 victories in 2012

A Look Back at Charleston Southern Series
• Last weekend, Liberty opened Big South play with a three-game sweep of Charleston
Southern.
• With the three-game sweep, Liberty moves to 10-1 at its new home - Liberty Baseball
Stadium
• C Trey Wimmer lead the way for the Flames, hitting .500 , with eight RBIs and four
extra base hits. On Friday, he hit his second home run of the year in Liberty’s 8-2 win.
The C is currently on an eight-game hitting streak, fueled by a six-game span in which
he had two hits in each contest.
• 2B Bryan Aanderud collected a .417 batting average on the weekend. The senior hit
his first home run of the year in Saturday’s 8-4 win. He will enter the week with a sixgame hitting streak.
• Danny Grauer’s first home run came in dramatic fashion, Sunday. With Liberty trailing
1-0 and two outs in the seventh, Grauer ripped the first pitch he saw over the left field
wall for a three-run home run in Liberty’s 3-1 win over Charleston Southern. Grauer also
had a bases-clearing single, Friday.
• RHP Trey Lambert became the first Liberty pitcher to go the full nine innings this
season, running his record to 4-0 on the year on Sunday. The complete game was the
first of the junior’s career. The Flames RHP retired the first 10 Buccaneer batters on
the afternoon and allowed the visitors only one hit through the first six innings. For the
game, he allowed one run on three hits and struck out a career-high six batters.
• RHP Brooks Roy moved to 3-1 on the year, Saturday. After allowing a single to open
the top of the second, the senior retired 13 Buccaneer batters in a row. He ended up
allowing two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings.
• RHP Patrick Bankemper earned his first save on Saturday. The reliever is tied with
fellow bullpen mate Josh Richardson for the team lead in appearances with nine.
Flames Tie Consecutive Win Mark
• The Flames ran off a nine-game winning streak from Feb. 17 through March 3.
• The streak tied the program record for consecutive wins at the NCAA Division I
level. The mark has been reached in seven different seasons.
• The program’s all-time mark is 15 games, which was set by 1976.
