RESEARCH INTERESTS
My mixed methods dissertation aims to develop and validate an ableist microaggression scale,
and examines the relationship with the mental health of disabled adults. As a mixed methods
researcher, my research focuses on understanding how power, privilege and oppression
systematically marginalize, exclude, and discriminate against groups and individuals through
negative attitudes, problematic policies, oppressive actions and isolation, with a focus on health
and educational disparities. More specifically, my work currently centers on disability and
ableism, and transgender/gender variant identities and transphobia. I also research experiences of
sexuality in marginalized communities, particularly LGBTQIA individuals and disabled people.
TEACHING INTERESTS
I have an interest in teaching courses related to social justice, human behavior in the social
environment multicultural populations, power/privilege/oppression, health disparities, community
outreach and advocacy, research methods (intro, qualitative and mixed methods), assessing
evidence for practice, disability studies, sexuality (including LGBTQIA identities and sexual
health), feminism in social work, fundraising/development, and inclusivity/cultural
responsiveness.
