2010 Chinese Language Teacher Summer Institute The Asian Languages ESL/Bilingual Technical Center (ALBETAC) held its Fourth Chinese Language Teacher Summer Institute from August 25-27 at Pace University, Manhattan campus. The theme of this year’s institute was “Teaching Language, Literacy & Making the Content Connection in Chinese.” This year, ALBETAC collaborated with Confucius Institute at Pace University and NYU Project for Developing Chinese Language Teachers (DCLT) in bringing various resources to Chinese language teachers. The purpose is to provide professional knowledge as well as to build a network for educational professionals in the Chinese language teaching field. Nearly 60 teachers of Chinese language and bilingual classes participated in and completed the 12-hour professional development. There were participants from the tri-state area. While most of the participants are from New York City, there are also teachers traveling from New Jersey, Connecticut and other parts of New York State - Binghamton, and Yonkers to this “rich and worthy learning experience”, according to the feedback from one participant. The 2010 Chinese Language Teacher Summer Institute is designed to address the needs of both Chinese as a foreign language teachers and Chinese bilingual/dual language program teachers.
