October Kindergarten Newsletter Another exciting and busy week in Kindergarten! The children have learned about the letters Ss and Mm. We will begin letter Rr next week. We will be starting our leaf/Fall unit next week as all. Please continue to work with your child on letter recognition, sounds, sight words and counting. Book Orders In your childʼs Friday folder you will find this month’s book orders. Please have all book orders back to school by Thursday, October 8th. You also can place your book order on line using your class code. ~Please send in a cracker snack for the month of October! Pop Tabs The Kindergarteners service for the year is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald house. Your child will be coming home with a baby food container. Please fill the container up and send to school with your child. If you have large quantities we will gladly take those as well. The children will place all tabs in a large barrel outside the Kindergarten rooms. At the end of the year they will be taken to Iowa City to help the Ronald McDonald House and families with sick children. WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR 1 ½ INCH BINDERS. IF YOU DID NOT SEND YOUR CHILD’S BINDER TO SCHOOL PLEASE DO SO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Conferences Conferences are coming up. You will receive information from the office on how to sign up. You will meet with your childʼs teacher for 15 minutes. Please be respectful of the time, thank you! Conferences will be held in the teacherʼs classroom. Please bring your child with you, they are so proud to show you what they have done and learned this year!!! Reviewing Skills Here is a list of different concepts you can work on with your child at home. 1. Use alphabet cards for recognition of letters and sounds. 2. Review address and phone number. 3. Counting and recognition of the numbers 0 - 100. 4. Recognition of the basic shapes. 5. Writing letters and numbers using the correct formation. 6. Read to your child every night. 7. Sign of the Cross. 8. Sight word lists. Halloween Party! We will be having a Halloween party at school on Wednesday, October 28th. Your child may bring his or her labeled costume to school that day. We are encouraging the children to bring something easy to change into, although we will be here to help them. Our homeroom mother will be calling a few of you later in the month to help with the snacks for that day. If you are called, you may send the snacks to school with your child on the day of the party. The Wellness Committee has stated you may NOT bring in any food items with your child to pass out to their friends. Your child will get to enjoy a special treat provided at our party. Thanks for your understanding. Don’t Forget!!! October 16th- Field trip to Eagle Point Park 10:00-2:30 (see permission slip in your child’s Friday folder) Send child with sack lunch, booster seat, hat, and play clothes and gym shoes. Friday, October 23rd- Field trip to Papa’s Pumpkin Patch (see permission slip in your child’s Friday folder) Send $6.00 to cover bus and a small pumpkin. Children wear play clothes and gym shoes. October 27th, 28th, 29th- Parent/Teacher conferences October 28th- Halloween Party October 29th-30th- No School Looking Ahead… Mrs. Murray’s class mass- November 18th Mrs. Johnson’s class mass- November 25th Happy FALL!
