February Kindergarten Newsletter Maps During the month of February we will be discussing and learning about maps. What a map is, what it is used for, where we are on the map, and drawing our own maps. In the next couple of weeks be looking for a “Flat Stanley” to come home. We will begin reading the story, Flat Stanley, make our own flat person and mail them to a family member, friend, etc… somewhere around the world. This is a fun activity for the students. We will be sending more information home as the time gets closer. 100 Days Smarter! Believe it or not we are getting ready to celebrate the 100th day of school. If we have no cancelations we are looking at February 9th as our 100th day of school. In your child’s backpack today you will find a large white piece of construction paper to decorate with 100 items. Please return these posters to school by Monday, February 8th. The sooner we receive them back the better so we can fill the kindergarten hallway with the posters. Have fun and be creative! This year we are doing a new 100 day snack. Some of you will be asked to bring in a box or bag food item. The kindergarteners will be celebrating the 100th day with their 5th grade buddies. Book Orders! We are sending February book orders home in your child’s Friday folder. Scholastic has added a coupon for this month. If you order at least $10.00 worth of books you can order a book up to a $5.00 dollar value for free. Please return book orders by Thursday, February 4th. Thank you! Valentine’s Day Valentine’s Day is approaching! We will be having a Valentine’s Day party on Friday, February 13th. The homeroom moms will be in contact with some of you to bring in a fruit, cookie or vegetable for the party. Children may bring in Valentine’s for the whole class. If you would like to bring in a small NON-FOOD item treat with your child’s Valentine’s you may. Please do not send in a food item with your child. All food items will be sent back home. At the end of the newsletter you will find your child’s class list. Conferences Parent Teacher conferences are quickly approaching. Conferences will be held March 1-March 3. You will be receiving more information from the office when you can begin signing up. Please be mindful that all conferences are only 15 minutes. There is no school Thursday, March 3rd and Friday, March 4th. Mark Your Calendars!!! Beginning in February we will begin a unit on the Five Senses.
