May 2016 Kindergarten Newsletter WOW! This year has flown by. It is so hard to believe that in just a short while we will be welcoming summer. We have continued to stay busy in kindergarten. The children have written and typed their own stories in class. We also started a unit on seeds. In math the students have worked on measurement, 2D/3D shapes, addition and subtraction collecting and organizing data. During the month of May we will be doing a Farm Unit and a Community Helper Unit. Kindergarten Celebration The kindergarten students will be moving on to the first grade! On Tuesday, May 31st, the kindergartners will be having a kindergarten celebration. This will be held at 10:00 in the gym. This is meant to celebrate the fun we have had, the friends we have made, and the memories we will have forever about our first year of school. Students will sing songs and receive their Kindergarten diploma. All are welcome to attend! Kindergarten Quilt The Kindergartner’s from each class have colored a letter square. Mrs. Haverland (Wilson’s mom) has taken the squares and made a class quilt. The kindergarten quilt will be drawn at the kindergarten celebration on Tuesday, May 31st. Tickets are 1 for a $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. More information and tickets will come home in your child’s backpack soon. Please send cash in an envelope marked with your child’s name. Spirit Day Last week your child was sent home with a sheet of paper explaining Spirit Day and the color or theme they should dress in for this special day. Spirit Day is on Wednesday, June 1st. This is a special day that your child will gather with their spirit group and teacher. Together they will cheer for their team. The children will play games and participate in activities. Feel free to dress your child as crazy as you would like in their assigned color! Book Orders In your child’s Friday folder you will see the last book order. To ensure all orders come back in time please have all orders in by Thursday, May 12th. Thanks! Summer Packets! PLEASE continue to work with your child over the summer. It is EXTREMELY important that you set aside time each day to do some kind of educational activity with your child. At the end of the year your child will be coming home with a summer packet.
