Dear Baja SAE Rochester Wet World Challenge Participants,
On behalf of RIT and our entire local organizing committee I would like to welcome you and your
team to RIT and this year’s event. We hope that you notice the extra “perks” that we have
arranged for each and every team – free breakfasts, free lunch, free banquet, free pizza dinner,
several types of free t-shirts and plenty of special awards.
Our committee has been preparing for this event for over one year. Thousands of volunteer
hours of hard work have gone into the planning and preparation for this event. We are well
aware that despite our preparations problems will arise during the competition. Please be assured
that we will handle these problems in the most equitable and safest way possible.
Our Officials, Design Judges, Technical Inspectors and other volunteers have all pledged to be
fair and professional while carrying out their assigned duties. Please understand that we will do
our best to make this the most memorable Baja SAE event ever.
We would like you to have an enjoyable, educational and exciting stay in the Rochester area and
at RIT.

Things to say on the radio:
1. Inform National Techs of any cars that flip over in your area, tell them your position and car number.
2. Inform Control of any accidents in your area where injuries or fire happen.
3. For tow requests, use channel #3. Tell them your position and car number.
Things not to say on the radio:
1. Never say "fire" or "emergency" unless you mean it. No non-critical communication on radio (no chatter).
2. Never request a "red flag" unless you mean it. The final call for a red flag will be given by Control after a
situation has been assessed.
3. Don't call in broken items or safety related items unless immediate injury is possible. Technical inspectors will
monitor all cars for safety issues.

AREA FOR
DIRECTIONS
1. No refueling on the track or any area other than the fueling area. You will be disqualified if this
rule is not followed.
2. Driver must be out of the car during fueling.
3. If you run out of fuel, you will be towed back to the fueling area and will be assessed a 20
minute penalty.
4. If your car rolls over, you must be inspected prior to being allowed back in the race. If your team
rolls over 3 times, your team will not be allowed to continue racing.
5. If your car is slow coming out of the water make sure you stay to the right.
6. If your car breaks on the track, you will be towed to the pits where you can fix it. If you break in
an area that is safe to work, you will be allowed to work on your car there.
7. If your car is running slow, stay to the right of the track to allow faster cars to pass. The track is
more than three cars wide in most areas.
8. Spectators will not be allowed inside the track area. They must stay in the spectator area (dotted
blue line on map).
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR VOLUNTEERS
1. At the beginning of your first “shift” please check in at the
volunteer’s check-in table to get your t-shirt, sign a waiver,
get meal tickets and get a wristband. Please be on time for all
shifts. Most shifts begin at 7am – but please double check
your schedule for a specific start time.
2. Please wear your competition t-shirt as your outermost layer
of clothing. Do not cover with coats, sweaters, raingear, etc.
3. Please watch for moving vehicles – our primary concern
should be safety.
4. If you are assigned a radio, you are responsible for returning
it each day. Please limit chatter on the radios and know what
channel to use for your assignment.
5. Most teams have spent many, many hours preparing their
vehicles for this event. Please treat all participants and fellow
volunteers with respect.
6. Please refrain from unprofessional behavior such as yelling,
swearing or other actions that would not be appropriate in a
professional office environment.
7. Meals will be provided for you each day that you are actively
volunteering. Snacks will be provided during the endurance
race. Meal tickets will be distributed at the volunteer check-in
table.
8. All volunteers are invited to attend the Awards Banquet on
Sunday Night, 5:00pm at RIT in the Gordon Fieldhouse.
Please wear your volunteer wristband for free admission.
