Culturally Responsive Education
Featuring
Dr. Eddie Fergus
As Executive Director of the Metropolitan Center for Urban
Education, Dr. Fergus also oversees the center’s Technical
Assistance Center on Disproportionality. TACD focuses on building
cultural competence and leadership development.
Keynote address by Dr. Eddie Fergus will address the
common causes of disproportionality which include the quality of
curricular and instructional supports, intervention services for
struggling students and predominate cultural beliefs.
Afternoon session will focus on Culturally Responsive
Education an introductory workshop that uses both Gloria LadsonBillings’ eight principles of culturally responsive education and Enid
Lee’s stages towards multicultural education as the framework to
encourage personal and professional growth in the area of cultural
competence.
