The survey was created in collabora0on with faculty, staff, and graduate students in psychology, educa0on, the Office of Ins0tu0onal Research, and the Center for Mul0cultural Excellence. This was a six month process included both instrument and content research and was veSed prior to implementa0on. www.du.edu/cme/climate.html 3 Campus Climate Report: Presented 06/11/13 6/21/13 For all survey ques0ons, analysis of variance (ANOVA) tes0ng was completed, exploring difference across social iden0ty groups by par0cipant popula0on (faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students) A majority of the survey ques0ons u0lized a 4-‐point likert scale with the poles being strongly disagree and strongly agree. In addi0onal, all ques0ons had a “Don’t Know” op0on. Some of the ques0ons u0lized a dichotomous (i.e., yes or no); thus, due to the different scales, in this presenta0on percentages will be provided of those par0cipants who either agreed or disagreed when no sta0s0cally significant differences were found between groups. Moreover, an outside expert completed a series of more sophis0cated sta0s0cal tes0ng including Latent Construct Analysis (LCA) and LCA using covariates. These analyses allow us to see how people’s percep0ons hang together – are there different groups of individual percep0ons? Upon comple0on of ANOVA sta0s0cal tes0ng, the Center for Mul0cultural Excellence along with and outside expert completed a qualita0ve analysis on the survey’s open-‐ ended ques0ons. Qualita0ve data is not provided here. www.du.edu/cme/climate.html 4 Campus Climate Report: Presented 06/11/13 6/21/13 Generally, the overall survey sample was representa0ve of the DU demographics in regard to race, gender, and ci0zenship. Within social science research a 26.2% response rate is considered really good. All survey demographic ques0ons were open response, meaning par0cipants were not required to answer any ques0on to con0nue with the survey. Below are defini0ons and/or informa0on on social iden0ty representa0on within this par0cipa0on and representa0on in the survey. Gender: On the survey demographic gender op0ons included, “man”, “woman”, “transgender”, and “gender queer”. Those par0cipants who responded as either transgender or gender queer accounted for a such a small popula0on (0.6%) that compara0ve analysis was not possible. Race & Ethnicity: Race and Ethnicity data were both aggregated and disaggregated for different levels of analysis. When aggregated, the four groups included, “Domes0c Racial Minority”, “White”, “Interna0onal”, and “Other/Did not Respond”. LGBQ: On the survey demographic op0ons for sexual orienta0on included, “bisexual/pansexual”, “heterosexual/straight”, “gay”, “lesbian”, “queer”, “asexual”, “ques0oning”, and “other”. To provide a level of anonymity and to allow for compara0ve analysis, sexual orienta0on was aggregated into three categories – heterosexual, LGBQ, and other/did not respond. www.du.edu/cme/climate.html 5 Campus Climate Report: Presented 06/11/13 www.du.edu/cme/climate.html 6/21/13 6 Campus Climate Report: Presented 06/11/13 www.du.edu/cme/climate.html 6/21/13 7 Campus Climate Report: Presented 06/11/13 www.du.edu/cme/climate.html 6/21/13 8 Campus Climate Report: Presented 06/11/13 6/21/13 Note: Par0cipants were not provided with a defini0on of “harassment” or “discrimina0on” within the survey nor were they prompted to respond in regard to a par0cular social iden0ty. For example, a women of color who iden0fies as heterosexual may have witnessed an an0-‐LGBQ incident. www.du.edu/cme/climate.html 9 Campus Climate Report: Presented 06/11/13 6/21/13 Note: Par0cipants were not provided with a defini0on of “harassment” or “discrimina0on” within the survey nor were they prompted to respond in regard to a par0cular social iden0ty. Is the raw data available for others to view? • No. In agreement with the DU Internal Review Board (IRB) and to respect the informa0on shared by the par0cipants, the raw data is not available for analysis. 2. I have an analysis I would like to suggest, what can I do? • If there are addi0onal analyses you would like to have informa0on on, please email [email protected] with your ques0on. There is no guarantee that we will be able to run suggested analyses; however, you may submit a request. 3.
