How to Apply to EXCAVATING ITALY

HOW TO APPLY:
EXCAVATING AND EXPLORING ITALY!!
FALL QUARTER 2016
Earn 8 QUARTER HOURS of COMMON CURRICULUM CREDITS
including ARTH/ENGL 2613 (AI:SC, AHUM) and ASEM 2518 (Writing Intensive)
and, continuing after Fall Quarter, 14 DAYS IN ITALY!
CLASSICAL ROME, RENAISSANCE FLORENCE, and ROMANTIC VENICE
This is not a Cherrington-eligible study abroad program.
Applications will be evaluated on the basis of a student’s academic transcript, quality and depth of the
four essay questions, and general preparedness for the program. Sophomores (by Fall 2016) will be
considered on an individual basis. Personal interviews may be required as necessary. All students must be
in good academic and judicial standing at DU. Program is limited to 25 students.
How to apply for ASEM 2518 Exploring Italy:
Complete DU Study Abroad Application Form (available on School of Art website, Print out
form, fill it out clearly, and get your academic adviser’s signature (from your departmental major).
Bring this form and the additional forms indicated below, plus a $600 deposit check payable to
“Travel Square One” to Jason Kellermeyer, in the main office, School of Art and Art History,
2121 E. Asbury. Your deposit will be returned if you are not accepted into the program.
Complete four short answer essays: On a separate sheet, please answer the following questions.
1. How does this program fit into your academic plans?
2. What is your interest in this particular program and location?
3. Why are you a good candidate for this program? What have you done to prepare for
your study abroad experience?
4. List at least 3 specific things you know about Italy (historical or cultural)
All accepted students will be registered for ARTH/ENGL 2613 (Ways of Knowing) and for
ASEM 2815 (Writing Intensive). Indicate your preference for either ARTH 2613 or ENGL 2613.

When accepted, complete the following:
Students will log onto the DU Passport site (https://abroad.du.edu/) and follow links to Faculty
Led Programs. Risk and Responsibility waivers must be signed there. Students with any serious
medical issues should speak directly with the professors about travel accommodations.
Log into International SOS on line, https://www.internationalsos.com. This is for emergency
evacuation only. Check your current health policy (either the DU Student Policy or if you are on
your parents’ policy, and make sure that you will be covered while traveling.
