John Wilson Named New Director of University of Denver’s Graduate Tax Program November 21, 2014—University of Denver Sturm College of Law Dean Martin Katz announced today that John Wilson has been appointed as the new director of the University’s Graduate Tax Program (GTP), effective December 8. With more than 150 students, the GTP is one of the largest of its kind in the nation, and ranked among the top 20 best tax programs in the country according to U.S. News and World Report (2014). It is one of only a handful of graduate tax programs which brings together accountants and lawyers to study side-by-side, allowing students from each discipline to learn the skills and expertise of the other. “Having taught International Tax in the program for over 20 years, I know firsthand how important the GTP is to the region’s tax community,” Wilson said. “I'm honored and excited to carry on its tradition of excellence and help develop the next generation of tax professionals." Wilson is a partner in the Denver office of Holland & Hart LLP, where he advises clients on complex corporate and individual tax matters, mergers and acquisitions, international business transactions, and IRS audits and appeals. He will remain a partner with the firm. Wilson received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Stanford University. He has served as the chair of both the Taxation Law Committee and the International Law Committee of the Colorado Bar Association. Wilson is listed in the Best Lawyers in America in Tax Law (International) and is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. “John is the perfect choice for us,” said Dean Katz. “He is a top-shelf practitioner with a gift for teaching and mentoring. His expertise and his deep connections with the Denver tax community will truly benefit our students.”
