FOR CREDIT INTERNSHIP POSITION ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION DEADLINE TO APPLY: September 18, 2015 INTERNSHIP DATES: FALL 2015 (15-20 hrs/week) COMPENSATION: Travel & possible stipend POSITION DESCRIPTION: Working under the supervision of the Environmental Health Coordinator, the Environmental Education Intern will help with program preparation and delivery of WEACT’s Environmental Health & Justice Leadership Training (EHJLT) program. The EHJLT program’s aim is to introduce adult members and high school youth leaders to Environmental Justice, Environmental Health, Community Organizing, and Campaign work. After completing the training, participants of the EHJLT program will be equipped with appropriate knowledge and tools needed to organize campaigns or projects for WEACT and/or the broader Environmental/Social Justice movement on their own. The EHJLT program’s second cohort is scheduled to kick-off in October of 2015. The curricula incorporates inquiry and place-based approaches to understanding Environmental Injustices in New York City with a focus on Northern Manhattan. The intern should be familiar with putting educational resources together, curriculum and program evaluation design. The intern should be willing to travel to the WEACT office in Northern Manhattan as well as other sites pertaining to the curricula. Lastly, the intern should have experience with and a passion for promoting healthy communities via: environmental justice, food justice, healthy indoor environments, toxic free products, sustainable & equitable land use, clean air & climate, and equitable & affordable transit work. RESPONSIBILITIES: - preparing EHJLT materials (30%) - community engagementand recruitment (25%) - program delivery & teaching (25%) - survey collection, evaluation, and analysis (20%) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Enrolled in a graduate program studying Education, Social Justice, Sociology, Political Science, Sustainability, Environmental Studies or related field - Have excellent public speaking and writing skills - Have teaching or educational programming experience with a diverse audience (particularly high school & adults) - Be creative and resourceful - Have excellent organizational skills - Have the ability to effectively multi-task and work independently - Have a flexible Schedule TO APPLY: All ApplicantsPlease send a cover letter and resume to [email protected] with "EHJLT Internship" in the subject line.
