RBE-RN Workshop at NYCAFLT 2014 Spring Conference

RBE-RN Workshop at NYCAFLT 2014 Spring Conference
On the chilly Saturday morning on April 26, more than 150 teachers of Foreign Languages attended the
New York City Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYCAFLT) Spring Conference at UFT building in
Manhattan. “It was very worthwhile,” a teacher commented on the engaging workshop provided by the
New York State Language Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (Language RBE-RN). “I learned
a few good strategies that I cannot wait to try when I get back to school next week.” The workshop,
Creating a Student-Centered Learning Environment to Promote Target Language Learning, was
presented by Pat Lo, Resource Specialist at the Language RBERN housed at New York University
Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools.
The presentation centered on the principles of student engagement and focused on using braincompatible strategies and instructional activities to create a student-centered learning environment.
