The following table shows the contributions of NAICS three-digit nonmanufacturing industries to private
nonfarm business multifactor productivity. The Domar weighting scheme applied is based on the relative
importance of each industry to total private nonfarm business output. Note that wholesale trade, 42, retail
trade, 44, 45, and securities, 523, made up the largest share of the total contribution of nonmanufacturing
to multifactor productivity from 1990 to 2000. The contribution of these industries has been decreasing in
recent years. In recent years real estate, 531, has made up the largest share of the total contribution of
nonmanufacturing to multifactor productivity.
