Chart 31.

The upper extremities and
back were involved in
almost 1-half of all
occupational injuries and
illnesses.
Injuries to the upper extremities, which accounted for 23 percent of all days
away from work cases, were largely cuts, lacerations, and punctures; back
injuries were most commonly sprains and strains.
The most frequently injured part of the body was the back. These cases had a
median 7 days away from work, the same as the median for all injuries and
illnesses.
