Median days away from work for injuries and illnesses is a key measure of severity. The median days away from work for all cases was 7 days in 2004, down from 8 days in 2003. About 25 percent of these cases resulted in 31 or more days away from work. Of the occupations with at least one-half percent of the total cases involving days away from work, heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers; light or delivery truck drivers; and other transportation workers had the highest median days away from work: 12. Industrial machinery mechanics and crop, nursery, and greenhouse farmworkers and laborers had the second-highest median days away from work: 11. Construction laborers and electricians each had a median of 10 days.
