In the private sector, the highest
number of fatal work injuries involved
workers in private construction,
an industry with a wide variety of
occupations.
Overall, fatalities in the private
construction industry rose 4 percent
from 2005 to 2006. Fatal work
injuries involving construction
laborers accounted for approximately
1 out of every 4 fatalities in private
construction in both 2005 and 2006.
