The data are collected as part of the Current Population Survey (CPS). The CPS is a monthly survey of about 60,000 households. The CPS is a joint program between the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Census Bureau. It is the source of civilian employment and unemployment data, including the national unemployment rate. Veterans are men and women who served on active Nonveterans are men and women who have never duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and were civilians at the time of the survey.
