Mortenson leads NDSU with a .339 average, whilte Amanda Gable paces the team with
three homers and 15 RBIs. Three-time all-region pitcher Chandler Hall is 5-5 in the circle.

facing a team for the first time, including 3-0 this season.
The Lady Flames are 5-6 against 2012 Southland members, with all 11 meetings
coming against Texas A&M Corpus Christi when the Islanders competed in the Big South.
Liberty vs. Sam Houston State
All-Time Series: First meeting
Sam Houston State brings a 3-13 record into its game against Liberty. Most recently,
the Bearkats swept Houston Baptist on March 7. The team has batted .250 this season,

with four homers. The Bearkats hold a 5.48 team ERA in 97 innings pitched.
Liberty has its first meeting against Sam Houston State all-time on Wednesday. The
Bearkats are the fifth team that the Lady Flames will meet for the first time this season.
Prior to this week, Liberty had not faced a current Southland Conference team, and
the Lady Flames will meet back-to-back Southland foes, in Texas State and Sam Houston
State.
Liberty vs. Buffalo
All-Time Series: Buffalo leads, 1-0
Current Streak: Buffalo W1
Last Meeting: Buffalo 5, Liberty 0 (3/19/11 in Clearwater, Fla.)

What a Comeback!
The Lady Flames battled back from a 12-2 deficit during last Tuesday’s 14-13 victory
over East Tennessee State. Liberty scored 10 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the fourth to
tie the game at 12-all, and won on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly by Hanna Nichols.
Tuesday’s win:
- Marked the largest deficit overcome in Liberty’s NCAA Division I softball history.
- Was the first game ever played under lights at Liberty Softball Field.
- Saw the Lady Flames post a 10-run inning for the first time since April 1, 2006.
- Included a Liberty Softball Field-record 18 base hits by the Lady Flames.
- Tied Liberty’s season high for runs scored in a single game.
Hit Parade
Liberty batted .422 (27-for-64) over the span of Tuesday’s doubleheader against East
Tennessee State. Sammi Shivock and Kelby Allen both went 5-for-8 (.625) on the day,
with Allen hitting a single, double, triple and home run over the two games and Shivock
slugging her first homer of the season. Amber Donovan, Kaylee West and Amber Donovan all hit .500 or better against ETSU.
The Lady Flames have now registered six 10-hit games this season, in addition to one
nine-hit contest.
Hit Parade (Part 2)
Kaylee West and Katie Zavodny tied a program record with four hits apiece during
Liberty’s 14-5 win over North Carolina Central, Feb. 11. It marked the first time in Liberty’s
NCAA Division I era (since 1994) that two Lady Flames had four hits in the same contest.
A four-hit game has been attained 27 times in Liberty’s NCAA Division I history. Jessica Moore and Alycia Stevens hold the Liberty softball record with four four-hit games
apiece, while Libi Cook, West and Zavodny all have two four-hit contests to their credit.
Crisante Named Big South Player of the Week
Senior outfielder Meredith Crisante was named Big South Softball Player of the Week
on Feb. 27, after hitting .538 with a home run and four RBIs in the USC Upstate Tournament. Crisante, who also earned all-tournament honors in Spartanburg, has reached base
in all eight of Liberty’s games this year. She brings a seven game hitting streak into this
week’s contests.
That’s a Record
Amber Donovan tied an NCAA Division I single-game record with three doubles on
Feb. 24 versus Savannah State. Six Lady Flames have a three-double game to their
credit, most recently Jessica Moore versus Bethune-Cookman, April 3, 2006.
Donovan also tied a program record with four hits during that contest, making her the
third Lady Flame with a four-hit game so far this season. The only other time in program
history that three Liberty players had a four-hit game in the same year was 2000, when
Meredith Hollyfield, Cheryl Wyrick and Lisa Jones all posted a four-hit contest.
Tale of Two Series
In Liberty’s doubleheader against East Tennessee State on Tuesday, the Lady Flames
and Buccaneers combined for 44 runs and 54 hits.
A pair of pitching duels took place at the Aggie Invitational this weekend, with Liberty
suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to North Dakota State and being edged by Monmouth, 2-1. The
Hawks escaped a bases-loaded situation by Liberty in the seventh inning. In their three
games in College Station, Lady Flames pitchers posted a 2.10 ERA, allowing opponents
to hit just .234.

We’ll Take 10
The Lady Flames are 6-0 this season when registering 10 or more hits, and have not
recorded a win with less than 10 base hits this season. Liberty tied a program record with
19 hits on Feb. 11 against North Carolina Central.
Going Yard
Liberty has hit 10 home runs so far this season. The team hit one home run in each
game against East Tennessee State, with Kelby Allen hitting her first career home run and
Sammi Shivock going deep for the first time this season.
This year, seven different Lady Flames have hit at least one home run, led by Bridgett
Woods’ three round trippers.
Last season, Liberty launched 61 homers in 60 games, and the Lady Flames recorded two or more home runs on 14 occasions.
First Things First
Three current Lady Flames recorded a base hit in their first career at bats. Grace
Nordan hit a home run during her first time to bat in a Liberty uniform. Kelby Allen and Jill
Stephens both singled in their first at bat as a Lady Flame.

Championship Memories
Liberty entered the 2011 Big South Softball Championship as the No. 2 seed. After falling to Winthrop in the opening round, the Lady Flames won four straight games,
capped by a 3-1 win over top-seeded Radford in the final to claim its first title since 2002.
The Lady Flames posted a 0.80 team ERA during the tournament, earning a pair of
shutouts. Tiffani Smith earned Tournament MVP honors after throwing a no-hitter against
host Winthrop, May 13.
Sammi Shivock hit two game-winning home runs, one against Gardner-Webb and
another in the final against Radford. Meredith Crisante went yard twice on May 13 at Winthrop. Both Shivock and Crisante both earned All-Tournament honors.
Liberty qualified for the NCAA Softball Championship Knoxville Regional, where the
Lady Flames faced No. 5 Tennessee and No. 19 Georgia Tech. The team led Georgia
Tech, 2-1, going into the bottom of the fifth inning on May 21, before the Yellow Jackets
rallied to down Liberty, 4-3.
Preseason Postings
Liberty has been predicted to finish second in the Big South Preseason Softball
Coaches Poll, behind Radford. This marks the second season in a row that the Lady
Flames were chosen to finish second in the conference.
All-American
Kelly Strickland made history for the Lady Flames last season, as she became Liberty’s first softball All-American by being named to the Easton Fastpitch All-America squad.
Strickland and Ashley Bensinger were named to the NFCA Lousiville Slugger All MidAtlantic Region team, becoming the first Liberty softball teammates to earn all-region
honors in the same season.
Conference Leading
Liberty led the Big South in eight offensive categories as a team in 2011, including batting average (.281), slugging percentage (.432), runs scored (289), hits (462), RBIs (266),
home runs (61), total bases (711) and sacrifice flies (14).
This season, the Lady Flames pace the conference with a .305 batting average, .445
slugging percentage and .358 on base percentage.
