Last Meeting
The Lady Flames earned a doubleheader split with a 9-7 victory over James Madison
on April 13, 2011. Kaylee West went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs, setting
career highs in homers and RBIs. The Lady Flames trailed, 6-4, through four innings, but
took the lead with a three-run fifth inning and added a pair in the seventh.
Lynchburg Launching Pad
Since the start of the 2005 season, the Lady Flames have hit 179 home runs in 139
games played at Liberty Softball Field, an average of 1.29 home runs per game. During
that same span, opponents have hit just 94 homers, an average of 0.68. Thanks in part to
this stat, Liberty is 86-53 (.620) at home since 2005.
This season, the Lady Flames have hit 13 homers in 15 home games. Meredith Crisante has slugged five of her team-leading seven homers at Liberty Softball Field in 2012.
Many or Few
The Lady Flames are 12-0 when recording 10 or more hits in a game this season.
However, the team made the most of its four hits during a 4-2 win on Sunday at Coastal
Carolina. It marked Liberty’s fewest hits in a victory since totaling three hits during a 2-1
win over Mount St. Mary’s on March 4, 2011. Alyssa DiMartino, making her first collegiate
start, held the Mountaineers to one hit before Katrina Johnson closed out the game.

That’s a Wrap
The Lady Flames are 4-1 in conference series finales this season, and each win has
been secured in the seventh inning or later.
Most recently, Liberty downed Coastal Carolina, 4-2, on Sunday. Grace Nordan hit a
go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning before Sammi Shivock won the game in the
seventh with a two-RBI double. Chandler Ball pitched a four-hitter to seal the victory.
On April 7, the Lady Flames trailed Charleston Southern 7-3, entering the bottom of
the sixth. Jenny Law registered a walk-off single in the eighth, winning the game for Liberty for the second Saturday in a row, 9-8.
The previous Saturday, March 31, saw Liberty erase a 3-2 deficit with two outs in the
seventh inning, as Law came through with a walk-off single for a 4-3 win.
Amber Donovan belted a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh,
March 25 at Gardner-Webb, clinching the 7-5 win and series sweep for Liberty.
Back Together
Meredith Crisante and former Lady Flame J’nae Jefferson (2007-10) were teammates
at Cabell Midland High School in West Virginia for two years, and then again from 2009-10
at Liberty. Both players were named to the 2010 Big South All-Conference Team.
Now, the two share ninth place in program history, as Crisante tied Jefferson’s career
total by hitting her 21st career home run, Saturday at Coastal Carolina.
200 Club
On April 7 against Charleston Southern, Kelly Strickland’s name appeared in the starting lineup for the 200th time. She is the 12th Lady Flame since 1994 to make 200 career
starts. Kaylee West made her 200th career start on April 10 against North Carolina A&T.
Jenny Law, a candidate to enter the 200-start club, has started 191 career games.
Drive for 5
During Liberty’s last meeting with James Madison, April 13, 2011, Kaylee West went
3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. She is one of four current Lady Flames with a
five-RBI contest to her credit.
Kelly Strickland has driven in six runs on two occasions, most recently against Norfolk
State, April 20, 2011. Meredith Crisante plated six runs on March 4, 2011 versus Siena.
Jenny Law set a team season high with five RBIs against UNCG, April 4, 2012.
Week in Review
Liberty hit .309 as a team this past week, going 4-3 while averaging six runs per contest. Meredith Crisante led the way, hitting .455 with three homers, seven RBIs and eight
runs scored. Sammi Shivock reached base in all seven games, batting .391 with eight
RBIs and six runs scored. Kelly Strickland (.381) and Kelby Allen (.333) both hit over .300.
Jill Stephens hit .292 and averaged one run scored and one RBI per game.
The week opened with a 13-5, six-inning victory over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday,
when the Lady Flames hit a season-high four home runs. Liberty closed out the week’s
slate of games with a dramatic, 4-2 comeback victory at Coastal Carolina.
4-for-4
Meredith Crisante tied a program record by scoring four runs during a 9-8 win over
North Carolina A&T, April 10. She became the fifth player in program history to score four
runs in a game, a list that includes teammate Sammi Shivock. Shivock crossed the plate
four times against Hampton on April 19, 2011. The other three Lady Flames all-time with

Moving on Up
Meredith Crisante hit her 21st career home run on Sunday at Coastal Carolina, and is
tied for ninth on Liberty’s all-time list.
Kelly Strickland registered her 141st career RBI on April 11 against Hampton, tying
Jessica Moore (2005-07) for third in program history. With 42 home runs, she is two away
from second place in program history, held by Ashley Williams (2005-08).
Kaylee West doubled on April 4 against UNCG, moving her into sole possession of
seventh place all-time at Liberty with 36 career doubles. She drove in a pair of runs on
April 11 versus Hampton, and now holds eighth place with 93 career RBIs.
Jenny Law registered two sacrifice bunts this past week, giving her 26 career sacrifices to tie her for sixth place in program history.
Extra, Extra
Liberty posted its first extra-innings win of the season on April 7, defeating Charleston
Southern, 9-8 in eight innings. Before that game, the Lady Flames’ most recent extrainnings win came April 16, 2011, when Liberty beat Gardner-Webb, 11-8, in eight innings.
Each of Liberty’s last six extra-innings victories has gone eight innings. The last time
the Lady Flames won a game of nine innings or longer was April 29, 2008, a 5-4 win over
Gardner-Webb that took nine stanzas to decide.
What a Comeback!
The Lady Flames battled back from a 12-2 deficit during a 14-13 victory over East
Tennessee State, March 6. Liberty scored 10 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the fourth to
tie the game at 12-all, and won on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly by Hanna Nichols.
Liberty’s 14-13 win over East Tennessee State:
- Marked the largest deficit overcome in Liberty’s NCAA Division I softball history.
- Was the first game ever played under lights at Liberty Softball Field.
- Saw the Lady Flames post a 10-run inning for the first time since April 1, 2006.
- Included a Liberty Softball Field-record 18 base hits by the Lady Flames.
First Things First
Marybeth Sciolino made her first career start on April 4, and drew a walk during her
first time to the plate. She is the fifth current Lady Flame to reach base on her first career
plate appearance. Grace Nordan hit a home run during her first time to bat in a Liberty
uniform. Kelby Allen and Jill Stephens both singled in their first at bat as a Lady Flame.
Bridgett Woods drew a walk during her first career plate appearance.
