New Jersey & New York: Price Movements of Top
Exports and Other Highlights

Total goods exports from New York and New Jersey combined
were $105.7 billion in 2016. New York exported $74.4 billion in
2016, while New Jersey’s total exports were $31.2 billion. The
export price indexes for miscellaneous manufacturing, chemical
manufacturing, and computer and electronic product
manufacturing all decreased between February and May.
Primary metal manufacturing prices rose over the same period.
Overall manufacturing export prices recorded no change.

the largest export value in 2016 for New
York and New Jersey combined ($23.8
billion.)
 Chemicals were the second largest export
value for the two states in 2016, with a total
of $13.9 billion.
 New York exported $6.3 billion of computer
and electronic products in 2016, while New
Jersey’s exports were $4.2 billion. This
industry ranked third largest for exports in
2016 from these two states.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Miscellaneous Manufacturing
 New York accounts for almost 70 percent
of U.S. jewelry and silverware exports,
amounting to a total export value of over
$22.6 billion in 2016. Jewelry and
silverware is the primary component of
export miscellaneous manufacturing for
the region.
 Miscellaneous
manufacturing export
prices advanced 0.4 percent for the
3-month period ended in May. The price
index for export jewelry and silverware
fell 0.3 percent over the same period.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Chemical Manufacturing
 The
export price index for chemical
manufacturing decreased 0.5 percent for the
quarter ended in May.

 Lower petroleum prices contributed to the
quarterly fall in chemical manufacturing prices,
dropping 5.2 percent. That was the largest 3month decline since a 15.3-percent decrease in
March 2016.
 Over the 12 months ended in May, the
price index for chemical manufacturing
exports fell 1.1 percent.

 Export primary metal manufacturing prices
rose 2.1 percent between February and May.
