New England: Price Movements of Top Exports and Other Highlights June 2017 www.bls.gov/mxp Exports for New England totaled $52.5 billion in 2016, the same as the 2015 trade‐dollar value of $52.5 billion. Prices for New England’s top export industry, computer and electronic products, which accounts for 22.4 percent of New England’s exports, increased between February and May. Nonelectrical machinery manufacturing prices as well as export prices for transporta on equipment also rose over the 3 month period ended in May. Top Six New England Exports by Trade Dollar Value, 2016 New England accounted for 5.8 percent of total U.S. exports of computer and electronics products; Massachuse s alone accounted for 3.4 percent. The six New England states accounted for 2.9 percent of the total U.S. exports of transporta on equipment. New England’s top six export industries accounted for slightly more than 72 percent of the region’s total export dollars. U.S. Export Price Indexes: Computer & Electronic Product Manufacturing Computer and electronic manufacturing comprises 26.9 percent of total exports from Massachuse s. Export prices for computer and electronic product manufacturing rose 0.2 percent for the 3‐month period ended in May, while manufacturing ex‐ port prices recorded no changed. Export computer and electronic product prices fell 1.3 percent over the year ended in May. Import/Export Price Indexes (MXP) and New England Highlights www.bls.gov/mxp U.S. Export Price Indexes: Transporta on Equipment Manufacturing Transporta on equipment manufacturing made up 43.2 percent of Connec cut's exports by trade‐dollar value. The price index advanced 0.2 percent for the 3 months ended in May and 1.9 percent for the year ended in May. Con nued global demand for aerospace products and parts contributed to the quarterly advance in transporta on equipment manufacturing prices. U.S. Export Price Indexes: Nonelectrical Machinery Manufacturing In 2016, Massachuse s accounted for 53.6 percent of New England's total nonelectrical machinery exports by trade‐dollar value. Over the past 3 months, nonelectrical machinery manufacturing prices rose 0.2 percent. export Export prices for nonelectrical machinery manufacturing fell 0.5 percent for the year ended in May. New England Computer & Electronic Products Exports by Trade Dollar Value, 2016 Massachuse s’s exports of computer and electronic products accounted for 59.2 percent of total New England exports of this industry. New England ranked 4th na onally in exports of computer and electronic products behind Texas, California, and Florida. New England’s $11.7 billion in computer and electronic products exports made up 5.8 percent of total U.S. exports of these goods.
