Texas: Price Movements of Top Nonenergy Exports and Other Highlights June 2017 www.bls.gov/mxp Texas ranked first among U.S. states in total exports with $232.6 billion in 2016, 6.3-percent lower than the 2015 total. Export prices for computer and electronic products, Texas’s largest nonenergy export accoun ng for 20.3 percent of the state’s total nonenergy export dollars, increased for the 3-month period ended in May. During the same period, chemical manufacturing prices declined while prices for transporta on equipment and nonelectrical machinery manufacturing each rose 0.2 percent. Top Six Texas Nonenergy Exports by Trade Dollar-Value, 2016 Texas’s largest nonenergy export, computer and electronic products manufacturing, accounted for $47.2 billion in exports in 2016. Among U.S. states, Texas ranked first in total exports with $232.6 billion in 2016 followed by California with $163.6 billion and Washington with $79.6 billion. The top six nonenergy export industries in Texas accounted for 63.1 percent ($146.7 billion) of the state’s total export dollars in 2016. U.S. Export Price Indexes: Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing Export prices for computer and electronic product manufacturing rose 0.2 percent for the 3-month period ended in May, while manufacturing export prices recorded no changed. Higher prices for computer and peripheral equipment, which rose 1.1 percent, drove the quarterly increase. Export computer and electronic product prices fell 1.3 percent over the year ended in May. Import/Export Price Indexes (MXP) and Texas Highlights www.bls.gov/mxp U.S. Export Price Indexes: Chemical Manufacturing The export price index for chemical manufacturing decreased 0.5 percent for the quarter ended in May. Lower petroleum prices contributed to the quar- terly fall in chemical manufacturing prices, dropping 5.2 percent. That was the largest 3-month decline since a 15.3-percent decrease in March 2016. The price index for chemical manufactur- ing exports fell 1.1 percent over the 12 months ended in May. U.S. Export Price Indexes: Nonelectrical Machinery Manufacturing Over the past 3 months, nonelectrical machinery manufacturing prices rose 0.2 percent. export Export prices for nonelectrical machinery manufacturing fell 0.5 percent for the year ended in May. Agriculture, construc on, and mining machinery export prices, rose 0.3 percent which par ally offset other nonelectrical machinery prices. U.S. Export Price Indexes: Transporta on Equipment Manufacturing The price index advanced 0.2 percent for the 3 months ended in May and 1.9 percent for the year ended in May. Con nued global demand for aerospace products and parts drove the quarterly advance in transporta on equipment manufacturing prices. The 12-month rise matched the largest advance since the index climbed 2.1 percent for the year ended December 2014.
