California: Price Movements of Top Exports and
Other Highlights

California’s total export value fell 1.1 percent between
2015 and 2016, reaching $163.6 billion while remaining
second only to Texas among U.S. states. During the first
quarter of 2016, export prices for nonelectrical
machinery manufacturing, computer and electronic
product manufacturing, and chemical manufacturing
all decreased. During the same period, the export price
index for transportation equipment manufacturing
rose 1.1 percent while export prices for all
manufacturing rose 0.5 percent.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing
 Computer
and electronic product
manufacturing export prices fell 0.5
percent between December and March.
 Export
prices for computer and
electronic product manufacturing fell
1.7 percent over the past 12 months,
while all manufacturing prices rose 2.3
percent.
 Semiconductor
prices, the index’s
largest contributor, fell 0.3 percent
between December and March.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Transportation Equipment Manufacturing
 Export
prices
for
transportation
equipment manufacturing increased 1.1
percent during the first quarter of 2017.
 Transportation equipment manufacturing
export prices recorded a 1.9-percent rise
for the year ended in March.
 Motor vehicle parts, a contributor to
transport equipment manufacturing,
ticked up 0.1 for the year ended in
March. This was the first 12-month
advance since November 2014.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Chemical Manufacturing
 Export chemical manufacturing prices
recorded a 0.4-percent fall for the 3
months ended in March.
 Between March 2015 and 2016, prices
for export chemical manufacturing
advanced 1.4 percent.
 Chemical manufacturing replaced crop
production as the fifth largest
Californian export in 2016. Higher prices
for petroleum contributed to the
increase in export value.
