Guidelines on Appointment of New Teachers by Department of Public Policy and
Management at I-Shou University

Departmental Affairs Council in the second semester of the
academic year 2008
I.
The Guidelines on Appointment of New Teachers by Department of Public Policy and
Management at I-Shou University (hereinafter referred to as the “Guidelines”) are enacted in
accordance with Article 3 of the Regulations for Faculty Appointment at I-Shou University and
Provision 8 of the Regulations for Establishment of Teacher Review Committees at I-Shou
University.
II.
Applicants to be appointed as new teachers shall fill the vacancy of full-time faculty members at
the level of associate professor or a higher rank; the aforesaid rule does not apply to applicants to
be appointed as a part-time faculty members.
III.
Requirements for faculty appointment:
1. Applicants to be appointed as a lecturer shall meet one of the following requirements:
a.
having taught at universities/institutions and having a Certificate of Lecturer with
remarkable achievements and specialized publications;
b.
holding a master degree conferred by domestic or overseas universities/ institutions or
an academic credential at the equivalent educational level, and having remarkable
achievements and specialized publications
2. Applicants to be appointed as an assistant professor shall meet one of the following
requirements:
a.
having taught at universities/institutions and having a Certificate of Associate
Professor with remarkable achievements and specialized publications;
b. holding a doctoral degree or an academic credential at the equivalent educational level,
and having remarkable achievements and specialized publications;
c. holding a master’s degree or an academic credential at the equivalent educational
level, having worked in research, professional field(s) or sector(s) in relation to
his/her major(s) for four years or more, and having remarkable achievements and
specialized publications;

d.
having worked as a lecturer for three years or more, and having remarkable
achievements and specialized publications.
3. Applicants to be appointed as an associate professor shall meet one of the following
requirements:
a.
having taught at universities/institutions and having a Certificate of Associate
Professor with remarkable achievements and specialized publications;
b. holding a doctoral degree or an academic credential at the equivalent educational level,
having worked in research, professional field or sector in relation to his/her major(s)
for four years or more, and having specialized publications;
c.
having worked as an assistant professor for three years or more, and having
remarkable achievements and specialized publications.
4. Applicants to be appointed as a professor shall meet one of the following requirements:
a. having taught at universities/institutions and having a Certificate of Professor with
remarkable achievements and specialized publications;
b. holding a doctoral degree or an academic credential at the equivalent educational level,
having worked in research, professional field or sector in relation to his/her major(s)
for eight years or more, and having creations or inventions, great contributions to the
academia or important specialized publications;
c.
having worked as an associate professor for three years or more, and having
remarkable achievements and important specialized publications.
IV.
Documents and certificates for application:
1. a curriculum vitae;
2.
a teacher certificate or a degree certificate;
3.
publications: a maximum of five publications;
4.
other documentations as a proof of qualifications.
V.
The Department shall appoint new full-time faculty members under the following procedures
in additional to the relevant regulations of the College of Management and the University:
1. Recruitment information shall be made known to the public.
2. The Selection Committee for New Teachers of the Department shall review applications
and then submit the result to the Teacher Review Committee of the Department to review.
VI.
The Department shall appoint new part-time faculty members under the following procedures
in additional to the relevant regulations of the College of Management and the University:
1. The number of part-time faculty members required by the Departmental shall be decided
by the Departmental Affairs Council.
2. Recruitment information shall be made known to the public.

3. The Selection Committee for New Teachers of the Department shall review applications
and then submit the result to the Teacher Review Committee of the Department to review.
Documentations submitted by applicants for a part-time teaching post shall be subject to
the same regulations of full-time faculty appointment.
VII.
The Guidelines become effective after being adopted by the Departmental Affairs Council.
The same procedure applies to any amendment to the Guidelines.
Note:In the event of any disputes or misunderstanding as to the interpretation of the language or
terms of these Guidelines, the Chinese language version shall prevail.
