Crystal Bennett received a $1,000 scholarship from Georgia Commission on Women at
the Woman of the Year dinner on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Atlanta. Ms. Bennett
received a diploma in Dental Assisting from Athens Technical College, a B.S. degree
from the University of Georgia, and will continue studies at the Medical College of
Georgia in the fall.
The Georgia Woman of the Year Committee, Inc., in cooperation with the Georgia
Commission on Women, established a scholarship awards program for women attending
Georgia colleges and universities. Seven scholarships of $1,000 each were given in
honor of the 2008 Georgia Woman of the Year. Since the program began, the
Commission has distributed over $62,000 in scholarships. The mission of the
Commission is to advance the health, educational, economic, social and legal status of
women in Georgia.
Nominations were made by faculty members at colleges, universities, or technical
colleges in Georgia. Nominations are based on a student’s leadership capabilities and
community and campus activities.
Tina Grile, nominating instructor, states, “Crystal is a very deserving recipient of this
scholarship. I believe that all of her accomplishments epitomize all that the Georgia
Commission on Women has worked to provide women in the state of Georgia.” She also
states, “The goals and dreams that she has worked so diligently to pursue truly
characterize the advancement of women. I am confident that she will be an exceptional
leader and healthcare provider in the future for the state of Georgia.”
