College’s business honor society chapter wins awards
Members of the Athens Technical College Chi Zeta chapter of the Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor
Society took home several accolades from the recent 2012 National Leadership Conference held in Santa Fe, New Mexico on
March 31. ABG was established in 1970 to promote scholarship among two-year college students who are studying business.
The college’s Chi Zeta Chapter captured several awards, including the Gaye Anderson Award of Excellence for
outstanding chapter management and service to the campus and community. The chapter also won Best Chapter Website.
Individually, chapter members and advisors also earned kudos at the conference.
John Haley, faculty advisor, won the Professor C. George Alvey Distinguished Fellowship Award for outstanding service
by a chapter advisor, essentially meaning that Haley is now a Fellow in the Society of Alpha Beta Gamma.
For the second year in a row, Charlotte Van Eman, the Chi Zeta chapter president, was named The Hausman Siegel
Distinguished Chapter President for outstanding chapter president. Judges commented that winning the award two consecutive
years demonstrates that Van Eman’s tenure serves as a model for all Alpha Beta Gamma officers to emulate. Van Eman also won
The Francis Cunningham, Esq. Memorial Essay Award for her paper on “Ethics in Business.”
Chapter Secretary Caroline Holland received The Eva Bobrow Memorial Medallion of Excellence Award for a current
officer who has contributed in an outstanding fashion and achieved excellent results for his or her chapter. Holland also won
the Steve Perri Memorial Essay Award for her written piece on the “Pros and Cons of Being an Entrepreneur.”
The chapter’s Executive Vice President Wayne Martin was honored with the Eva Bobrow Memorial Medallion of
Excellence Award for a current officer who has contributed in an outstanding fashion and achieved excellent results for the
chapter.
