Honor society recognizes Kay Helms for service
Phi Kappa Theta recently honored outgoing regional coordinator Kay Helms for her service to the national academic honor
society.
The Phi Theta Kappa society recognized Ms. Helms, a former Athens Technical College speech instructor, with the
Regional Coordinator Service Award during the society’s annual convention in April in Nashville. The society’s volunteer
regional coordinators oversee regional programming and activities while also serving as liaisons between the chapters in their
regions and the Center for Excellence.
Ms. Helms, who has served the Georgia Region for four years, also served as Phi Theta Kappa advisor at Athens Technical
College.
Phi Theta Kappa, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest honor society in American higher education and
boasts 1,280 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, as well as Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, Peru,
the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates, and
U.S. territorial possessions. More than 2.5 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately
135,000 students inducted annually.
