Dr. Tydings named to college marketing company’s advisory board
Athens Technical College President Flora Wilhite Tydings will share her expertise with an advisory board for the Virginiabased Higher Education Research and Development Institute, according to a recent announcement from HERDI.
HERDI’s advisory board comprises 30 of the nation’s leading community college presidents and chancellors. HERDI
facilitates discussions between these college leaders and the businesses that want to market their services and products to students,
faculty and staff. HERDI clients present their products, concepts or marketing plans to the advisory board members for review and
feedback.
Tydings is one of three community college presidents who recently were named as new members to the HERDI advisory
board. In August, Tydings will enter her 10th year as president of Athens Technical College. The college maintains four campuses
that support 650 full-time and part-time employees and 8,000 students annually. Under Tydings leadership, Athens Technical
College’s enrollment has grown by 133 percent. As a result of that growth rate, the college was identified by Community College
Times as one of the 25 fastest growing two-year colleges in the United States for the past two years.
Tydings started her tenure with the college as its third chief executive officer after serving as vice president for academic
affairs at Central Georgia Technical College in Macon.
Prior to her administrative role at Central Georgia Tech, Tydings served in a number of educational leadership positions.
She also has worked as a psychometrist in private practice and as an entrepreneur running her own gift shop.
Tydings earned her doctorate from the University of Georgia, a master's degree from Mercer University, and a bachelor's
degree from Georgia Southern University.
