Honor society members support Heart Walk
Members of Athens Technical College’s Chi Zeta chapter of the Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor Society participated in
Clarke/Oconee Heart Walk Thursday, September 20 to help raise money and awareness for the American Heart Association that works to prevent,
treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
The ABG members raised a$220 prior to the Heart Walk, a 5K route that began at Bishop Park, traveled a short distance along Oglethorpe
Avenue and then wove its way through the former U.S. Navy Supply Corp School. The campus now serves as home to the Georgia Health Sciences
University-UGA Medical Partnership as well as the university’s College of Public Health.
Volunteers and sponsors for this year’s Clarke/Oconee Heart Walk brought in about $80,000 for the event, itself, and the local chapter of the
American Heart Association has raised additional funds to bring the total to $84,323 as of September 25, but the fundraising will continue in an effort
to raise $125,000.
The Heart Walk is one of several civic projects that members of Athens Technical College’s ABG chapter members support as part of their
work with the honor society.
