Grainger gives $5,000 to Athens Tech Foundation
For the third consecutive year, Grainger industrial supply company’s philanthropic organization, the Grainger Foundation, has contributed $5,000 to
the Athens Tech Foundation. Walter E. Wellborn, branch manager for the Grainger industrial supply store in Athens, recently presented the $5,000
check to Athens Tech Foundation officials.
As in previous years, the money will be used to purchase tools and equipment for the technical and industrial programs at Athens Technical
College. This year, the college will use the donation acquire hand tools for the new Welding program at the Elbert County Campus.
Mr. Wellborn noted that, “Grainger is proud to be a partner with a quality institution of higher education like Athens Technical College.
Grainger is committed to community development, and partnering with Athens Technical College is one way in which Grainger promotes
community and economic development.”
The timing of the gift works well for the college, said Dr. Joyce Sansing, vice president for Academic Affairs.
“This generous donation from the Grainger Foundation will enable the College to purchase these necessary tools for the new Welding
program just in time for the start of spring semester classes in January,” Dr. Sansing said.
Dr. Flora Tydings, President of Athens Technical College, praised Grainger for the donation.
“Our partnership with Grainger provides many wonderful benefits for Athens Technical College,” Dr. Tydings remarked. “Not only is the
Grainger Foundation a generous benefactor, but Grainger also provides valuable scholarships for our students through the Grainger Tools for
Tomorrow Program. I am extremely grateful to Grainger.” In recognition of the most recent $5,000 gift from the Grainger Foundation, 20
auditorium seats in the Coggins Center on the Elbert County Campus will be engraved with the Grainger name.
